My Mosaic Quilt

This design was originally from a class I took from Mosaic Quilt artist Heidi Proffetty. Her pattern was included with the class that my sis and I took together in Paducah at the AQS show in April 2023. Here is what the original design looked like.

I completed the class project per her procedure and really liked the look of the design, but was at a loss for what I could do with it. It is rough edge applique and quilting was done with invisidible thread in a micro stipple to hold the applique down. After a year and a half, I decided the pieces were to small for me to easily work with so I painstakingly increased the size of each shape by hand, adjusting where I needed, to make everything fit. Pieces were skewed and changed shape from her original pattern. I then used my cutterpillar glow lightboard to trace shapes onto heat and bond light, staying with similar color shades for each area. I then ironed pieces like a puzzle onto a background square and did a narrow zigzag raw edge applique with similarly colored thread. The result was the throw quilt I made for myself.

She really has some amazing quilts in her gallery on her website and I think she even has some kits with original patterns available for sale. I just did not enjoy working with such tiny pieces and something about not securing the edges completely leaves me uncomfortable, lol.

I hope this answers your question, Lois, and I hope I adequately credited and did justice to Heidi's unique style of applique.
