Would you consider resting the painting on the mantel? I have a personal preference as it creates a single unit with the fpl, if that makes sense. To me it looks more... this will seem very odd ... youthful?

Are you putting those lamps on the mantle or replacing the ones on the end tables?

A few candles would look nice on the mantle. It's not big and the picture is the focal, so I would keep the mantle decor simple.

I think you need some greenery. A live plant on the coffee table... maybe one in the corner as well.

Mtn, this is for NY. Florida was the main reason for this redo. Everything here just looked sobairn and old.

Cz, the lamps are replacing the end table lamps.

Allison, the table is for DH. He drinks his coffee, views things on his phone, look close and you can see the phone holder, so it is functional.

I wanted a smaller table and just got tired of searching. If something hits me, I can replace it and this can move elsewhere.

I do like the taupe color of it.

Really almost anything can work, but I would start with things you have, play around with it, and see what you need... eg for varied, heights, color, texture, etc.

I like a tray with sides on a coffeetable, which can hold your decorative items... books, a small bowl or statue or paperweight...and still leave enough room for a coffee cup or two

A wooden tray with metal handles will add a touch of extra warmth and decorate the tray with seasonal vignettes - eg. for fall a bowl of fall colour potpourri with a pumpkin, basically anything that speaks to the season or special dates or holidays.

This is a similar style...but the round mirror gives the room more "drama"...a focal point. You need pieces on either side of the fireplace. Maybe cabinets with fretting. The BIG basket to the left adds texture....and pillows...LOTS of pillows to sink into. Curtains to the ceiling...graceful and flowing...

If you want "Beach" themed decor...aqua sea glass. Aqua pillows. Aqua will pick up the color in the beach sence painting. Sea shell...maybe a nautilus shell on a stand for your mantle. Aqua pottery vases for the mantle.

Right now...the beach scene is the only beachy thing going on....

That is what I asked, just in a different way. I am guessing he likes that location for the view from that angle.

Everything I looked at was much lower, so while they looked better they wouldn’t function for him. But, I’ll keep looking. I know it is too big but its better than what he had before!

I agree with lots of other advice here, and my first thought (coffee table) was what Allison suggested. It’s such a serene, classic look.

I’d have a stack of coffee table books (maybe three?) and a lovely bowl with either a low floral arrangement or empty … or a vase. I think the elegant simplicity of that would fit your room well.

Have you considered switching the arrangement? We used to have our LR like yours but we now have the sofa against the wall and the chairs in front of the picture window with a round table between them. It looks so much better to have the bulk of the sofa on a wall instead of in front of the window. It also gives us the big wall over the sofa for art, which I found impossible to decorate with two chairs and a lamp. You could move the painting over the fireplace to over the sofa and find something more dramatic for the fireplace, as Nicole suggested.
