Rather than arguing about : "is it/isn't it making a high pitched noise" why not record the noise with your video camera, rockybird? If you have a fairly decent video camera with good audio sensitivity, said camera will pick up the noise. I recorded the sounds (or actually a lack thereof) that my Elux induction unit makes, even on boost, with the mic right next to the boiling pot. My camera has a readout display that shows the intensity of basicaly any sound/sounds that it pics up and yes it picks up high frequencies as most better cameras should, and in fact one of my cats "passed gas" during my test and the camera picked it up! I also whispered so folks could get an "idea" of the camera's mic sensitivity. As far as telling which appliance is the "Culprit" turn off the power to one, long enough so you can determine which one it is. In a unit that has "dual compressors" or in your case a compressor for the fridge and one for the freezer,(and using variable speed compressors), it is "very likely" that the compressor "rarely, if at all" shuts fully off. More than likely it will run at it's mininum speed until cooling demands require that the compressor speed up, hence the circuitry that drives the compressor is operating most of the time, and an oscillator in the circuitry is what you "may be" hearing--not saying that you should hear it thou, maybe the circuit board, is not propertly mounted, or insulation aroumd it lacking so it feeds into the frame of the unit, and thus amplifies the sound. Anyway hope you have a good video camera, and at least that will end the arguement "Is it/isn't it making a noise"! Good luck, hope you get it resolved. Gary

I just bought and had installed a whirlpool side by side fridge the only on that would fit in my space. I waited 7.5 months to get it because I needed black , 2 days in the noise is driving me nuts it is the motor I can tell shuts off when either door opens . I locked the ice water dispenser on the door and it stopped but was that a fluke? but the others here want to use that feature. I looked into ways to sound proof the noise and will try that , like putting a rubber matt under it and sound proofing material behind it on the wall as what I have read the motor noise is in the air ( make sense who knows ) , the decibel reading , using a phone app, was 52 - 69 that was holding the phone in different places. I emailed my rep no response and now I know why they are all louder I think, I miss my 24 year old one ( except the way it was too cold inside who wants fresh frozen veggies ha ha ) why does this have to be very upsetting.

Hi what was your resolution? We also just got a brand new 18” Column freezer and it runs almost constantly and so very noisy. We’ve had technician out three times. They replaced the control board but nothing changed. We’re really hose to have spent $9K on a freezer that never shuts off. We can even hear it downstairs.

ok, this board doesn't appear to have an 'edit' function, so I had better learn to post later rather than sooner. In self defense, it's way past my bedtime, so I didn't plan to do any hands-on experiments. Anyway, mostly delete the previous two posts. The problem seems to be that the blower is unbalanced/centered and is indeed rubbing on something. I can spin the rotor by hand and hear it rubbing, then I can press on the sheet-metal 'spider' holding the outboard end of the shaft and 'fix' it. But only for a few minutes, then it comes back. After applying a little pressure and making it not rub, the rotor still has a balance problem - I can feel a low vibration when I spin it by hand, and hear it when it's running under power. The rubbing noise is very obvious, so I would surely have heard it when the crew was doing their checks. So I wonder what's happened. Did the factory forget to tighten something?
