The structure is gorgeous. Find a really good landscaper to enhance it. And save some of the most colorful shrubbery if you can. Great, great fall color.

It already has a "modernist-barn" feel to it, so I wouldn't mess with that.

The roof looks brown in some photos and gray in others? If you need to change roof and siding, then you can come up with a new color scheme for the whole house, but you need to consider the putty colored windows too.

I love modern but I also love barn style homes . I agree a new color scheme to give it some life and only you know if the siding needs replacing or just a good cleaning. .If the windows are putty colored they will drive the color scheme unless you plan new ones.i It is winter so you have time to think about what you want . If you are planning interior renovations I usually put off doing the exterior until those are done

Beautiful place. The green growing on the presumably north side of house and roof indicates there's been some deferred maintenance. Ask the home inspector to pay extra attention to the condition of the roof and siding so you can plan accordingly. Blocked gutters can lead to overflow in odd places, they are often easily corrected.

You can hire an arborist to walk the grounds with you to see what needs pruning and when. Mature trees and shrubs are a big plus for this property. Underplanting with colorful blooming annuals in the spring will give you a good idea of what will grow where in sun and shade. Judging from the beauty of the landscaping, my guess is that the owner who did the gardening would be happy to walk with you to tell you all about it. They may give you some excellent advice on fertilizing and other care for the trees, shrubs and other plants.

If you don't like the color, paint it. New roofs and siding don't come cheap, so get quotes if either is needed before buying the house.

I love that it’s unique and want it to still feel like a farmhouse. But just not loving all the brown (and I think the roof is gray but not sure). Definitely want to coordinate with the windows. Just depends on how traditional you want the house to appear.

Inspections first, and as to interior? There's as much 1980 drywall as there is "rustic". It's a HUGE property , with a pool, 4500 sq feet, and a LOT going on inside. Don't put a buggy ahead of a horse. It's a long winter in Pa! Move in, live for six months minimum. Decide what you love, don't love, does the kitchen layout work etc.!

"Potential" and " update " can be considered synonyms for dollars from minor to MAJOR league .

I would definitely seek advice on tree and landscaping, make certain pool is ship shape and on and on.

It's the type of property that begs local pro's. From landscape interior designer, to kitchen / bath , etc. and solid plan and a timeline with the plan. Don't rush anything., whether exterior or interior. This type of property has a maintenance price as well, and you will find that out by living in it over a year, and all the seasons.

A handful below and crowd sourcing is nowhere near as effective as local on site help- all regards.

The reason I’m asking about the exterior is I want to be ready in case it does need a new roof or siding. And bc we are planning to build a large garage/shop and I need to pick a color! It will be early spring when we add this. So I want to pick a color that will go with the future color scheme of the house. For example, if I pick green for the shop, will that limit what colors will look good for the house. Hope that makes sense!! Thx!!

What do you want to look at in the various seasons? You haven't spent a week in the house. Haven't seen the landscape in snow.!

Paint colors are as unlimited as are shades within any color.

With the brown roof, I'd recommend a warm green with warm cream trim. But, you could do a medium blue, as well. It would be trickier to get the right blue with the roof, but doable. Yellow with warm white trim would work, too.

That said, a strong, unexpected trim color with the existing brown would change the look, too. A warm red, pumpkin or coral.
