Comments (29)I had this set-up in a rental house years and years ago ... though the dishwasher was closer to the corner (imagine the drawer unit flip-flopped with the dishwasher). Admittedly, I was just out of college and was simply thrilled to have a dishwasher ... but I never once considered it a problem. I don't think the dishwasher is a problem here; rather, the thing to question is, do you have drawers under your peninsula? In this set-up, you'd be okay: you have drawers for your silverware -- you could easily move silverware from the dishwasher to the drawer ... and you could pass silverware over to the eating area. Ditto for prep items such as knives, etc. I would NOT want this layout with the dishwasher only /no drawers. I think a small kitchen is fine -- as long as you have a big adjacent pantry. In this picture, I think the question becomes, does the dishwasher open without hitting the adjacent cabinet hardware ... and does the open dishwasher door prevent you from putting things away in the cabinets? The fixture should be centered on table. Has nothing to do with window I think both matter. The light fixture should be centered on BOTH the table AND the window. It'd drive me crazy otherwise....See MoreNeed advice for best cabinets for 10' ceiling G-shaped kitchen
Comments (1)First I'd do Ikea before I'd do Cabinets.com. Do lots of research. If you want comments on the layout, post what they came up with with room dimensions....See Moreseeking design advice for off center fireplace and tv
Comments (2)I'd create two separate areas, yes one, smaller one, next to the windows-two armchairs with a table between them. probably would go with something legged..more visually light, as to obscure windows the less..or give an impression I'm obscuring them the less:) another, bigger one, for TV watching..a sofa..an angled chair on the right much like you have now, but looking smaller..I might consider doing smth different since several chairs in the room..maybe a rocking chair? I might also go for an ottoman instead of a coffee table-can serve as additional seating if needed. I might also find a garden stool as one of the side tables-again, opportunity for additional sitting, if a lot people use a room at once. Round shapes will also break the lines of all the rectangular furniture, so I'd definitely take it into account when shopping. I also might do something patterned to add interest..say two armchairs, or an ottoman, or a chair in bigger sitting area.. Rugs would help to delineate different zones, so another idea to consider. Pretty room. Once you get your balance right-full of potential to be very cozy....See Moreideas for entry-centered or off centered decor?
Comments (7)thanks for the comments! the table is very narrow and the length (about 65") covers the baseboard cover (ugh).. Although there is a center pretty light fixture, the lamps provide the atmosphere, especially at night.... Been looking for photos of similar stairs; can anyone provide some PICS with oen larger lamp, etc? so I can visualize a less symmetric styling? thank you so much....See MoreRelated Professionals
