Need advice: Replacing tile grout (shower)
Comments (3)We had this same thing in our shower. You just need to remove and replace the caulk, not the grout. There is a bead of caulk where the tile meets the shower pan to keep water out of the seam. The caulk develops mold or mildew over time and needs to be replaced. If you use 100% silicone caulk (not "siliconized" caulk), you shouldn't have this problem. However, silicone is harder to work with than latex caulk. I've had success using windex on my finger when smoothing the caulk instead of water. See attached link for some instructions. Good luck! Here is a link that might be useful: how to replace caulk...See MoreNeed help with shower tile/outside corner
Comments (4)Oh my gosh! Never even gave that a thought! We used some of that edging/finishing material when we set the tile on the floor (carpet will be butted up against the tile in a few areas). It's not Schluter... it's whatever brand Lowe's carries... and it came in a "sand" color which matches my tile color perfectly. I don't particularily care for the contemporary look of the Schluter edge in the pictures shown on the Schluter site because we are having oil-rubbed bronze for all of our fixtures but I may be able to use the "sand" colored stuff and then maybe just run a bead of clear caulk down the wall edge where the back end of the edge/finish piece and the painted wall meet just to cover any thinset that may sneak out from behind. Thank you SO much for you help though in getting me to think outside the box!...See MoreNeed advice for tile on shower niche
Comments (59)Catlady999 the light over the shower was installed by a licensed electrician who was doing a bunch of other work in the house but thank you for bringing that up! *Update* good news: my mom said she's going to tell the guy to stop working in the bathroom area and just focus on getting the other things (painting, drywall) so hopefully this means we'll be getting a real professional who knows what they're doing!...See MoreAdvice needed for 12' x 7.5' bathroom floor tile and shower wall tile
Comments (25)Home Depot is the only place within two hours that sells the pre-fab, and the colors are horrible. I need three bathroom countertops, and the largest is 52". I should be able to find remnants, but I can't even find fabricators who have remnants. Nobody has a website and the fabricators don't advertise, at all. I found six places in Tulsa, but none of them have quartzite remnants. I can only find stone suppliers. I will make a list of suppliers this weekend, and call them on Monday. Maybe they have a list of fabricators near me. Even Google maps didn't have anyone listed near me. They didn't have the two fabricators that are a half hour away from me. What is your opinion on glossy vs honed in a bathroom. My kitchen has leathered Sea Pearl quartzite, and I love it. I prefer matte colors usually, but I doubt I would like leathered bathroom countertops....See MoreRelated Professionals
