Comments (4)I would not put an off-white vanity with white and light gray granite. The vanity does not have to be flush with the wall if the top is straight and extends past the moldings on the side of the vanity. I believe Home Depot sells a number of them- links below. I think any combination of white or gray floor tile would look great with that granite and blue-gray walls. Yes, it will be difficult to replace the tub later without damaging the floor, but it may be possible. Here is a link that might be useful: HD vanities...See MoreI'd love a critique of the new bathroom layout
Comments (3)I don't know what the original floor plan was like, but one of the more difficult or expensive things to relocate is a proper DWV for the toilets. If you can keep the existing toilet close to its current location and have the new second toilet in the same locale so they can share the existing stack, that could be a significant financial factor in your favor. If you know which way your floor joists run, the new toilet could be moved away from the original, but if you can keep it aligned so the horizontal run from the new toilet can be in a single joist bay (directly east-west or directly north-south from each other) and then join up with the old waste stack, that'll help too. Those are simple guidelines. There is no hard and fast rule that you need to adhere to them. Just a way to economize and minimize changes to the framing of the floor. I try to "isolate" the toilet stack(s) on an interior wall if possible. Right now you have one on an exterior wall. A large 4" diameter stack in an exterior wall could result in a loss of insulation on that wall. The other toilet is on the stairwell wall. If you simply use PVC for that waste stack, you could get "toilet noises" reverberating through that wall whenever the toilet is flushed. Or use cast iron for the verticals for sound deadening. As to the specific layouts, I think they are both okay as is. The pink bathroom, I'd reverse the swing of the entry door so it opens into the bathroom. Some folk are bothered by the toilet being the right in the line of sight when you open a bathroom door, but hey...it's a bathroom. If the blue bathroom is the teenage boy bath and the pink is for the girl, I'd probably reverse the two and have the tub in the girl bath and the shower in the boy bath. Here's a very rough idea of backing up the toilets on a common wet wall, as well as backing up the tub and shower on a common wall. the linen closet was moved and enlarged. Not perfect by any means. With my revised drawing I'd still consider altering the blue entry door and the pink shower door. But it's just a quick shuffle....See MoreBathroom Reveal, Thanks to the Bathroom and Remodel Forums!X-Post
Comments (6)Lovely! I like the classic white tile and porcelain and how you used furniture pieces in the bathroom. I love that the storage at the end of the tub has pull-outs that can be reached from the toilet. Your custom sink and backsplash and counter are unique and beautiful. Yours may be the first bathroom sink I have seen in which a small or medium dog could be washed! That is a good thing! I showed your pictures to my DH because I am thinking of classic tiled walls with a chair rail for when we redo our bath in a couple of years. He liked it! I was expecting him to say, "too old fashioned." He did not, he said it looked nice. From him, nice is a compliment. He even liked your rows of listello. I was just at the Tile Shop's site the other day looking at the Hampton tiles because someone was selling some on Craigslist. I am hoping to do as you did and get what I can cheaper there, and fill in the rest from the store. I can see that you worked very hard to secure all of your materials - and then cut the floor tiles to size and culled the Hampton tiles, too! You succeeded very well in getting the look you wanted while saving money along the way. Congratulations, and thank you for the pictures and great detail and supply list....See MoreHow should I decorate our fancy but odd master bathroom layout?
Comments (23)I disagree that all your wood has to match. I kept asking my decorator about "matching" wood and she was flat out against it. Said it makes your house look like a furniture ad, and she didn't mean that in a good way. "Matchy-matchy" was her derogatory phrase LOL. Painting your walls, or some of them, would be a good way to bring some life to the room without adding dust-collectors. My vote would be for a soft watery blue-green-gray. For example the SW Sea Salt in this example. https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/8-most-popular-blue-green-paint-colours-mix-sherwin-williams-and-benjamin-moore/...See MoreRelated Professionals
