Tips to Modernize More Traditional Style Furniture
Comments (22)Trancegemini, yes. You can't even go out that window/door in the living room and there is also basement access inside the house by the crazy stairwell. Mjlb, I can't imagine living 4 years on military furniture. I know some of our potential locations we would HAVE to store most of our household goods. I would only hope those locations have more comfortable furnishings than the things the military provided us here until our things arrived. Think...doctor's office waiting room or something equally uncomfortable. I am thankful, though, the military does provide for us and everyone with something until our own things come. Geogirl, I know. We are so happy to be here and have these opportunities. The antiques here are gorgeous. We have committed ourselves to one big furniture purchase a year here (which is what we did in the US as well), looking for great quality sturdy things preferably antique but open to anything as long as its well-made and can survive many more mili moves. In the meantime, we have to make our space work for us and make it feel like home. That's something we never really did in Texas, make our house a home....See MoreHelp! Comments (66)I love the furniture you've picked out. It will look bright and cheery and just the feeling of the inspiration pics you've posted in your other threads...once you paint! Paint the darn room already! :) My last house had muddy mauve and no natural light (houses on three sides and a big porch on the other). As soon as I painted, it changed everything. Even my mood was better. And if you have a front porch, I suggest you paint the porch ceiling blue. It made a big difference looking out my window and seeing Martha Stewart's Porch Ceiling Blue. Almost as good as being able to see the sky. :) Let your room evolve. Don't feel like it has to be "done" right away. Take your time finding art and accessories that you love. You're doing great and you're going to have a lovely space to enjoy....See MoreKit/Hearthroom con't
Comments (10)oh goodness....I just got the quote for doing the cabinet work!! Adding a wood mantel hood - and adding a cab & drawer stack to the counter where that worthless corner cab is over....$3000. By doing those things - I would have to have the cabs refinished b/c they come unfinished. It is always one thing leads......The faux painter doesn't work cheap - either. Another 4k for that. Just three in my family - only child. So the drop leaf table by the fp would work for us.... I did find some interesting stuff at the antique store, thou. Camelback loveseat - $98 - needs upholstery but very nice with down cushion 4 parsons chairs covered in cream with a red check & roosters - $350 - I think I could work with this upholstery since I have red checked lampshades in the kitchen. And the rooster pic but I don't want a rooster theme! Antique oak gateleg table - $325 Cute little red painted side table - $25 I am thinking about going ahead and purchasing these things tomorrow. I really couldn't believe that I found almost everything I was looking for today. But, at the same time I am scared of making a mistake. Back to the kit.....do you think a change in backsplash would help? I kinda don't want to get so heavily $$ involved in a total make-over. I have saved my "mad money" for a project but there are always others on the list. The practical side of me says these cabs are brand new & not bad. The person that looks at beautiful kitchens here, online & mags says go for it - what the heck - if it will make you enjoy where you spend the most time, why not??? Any ideas on making the kitchen look better on the cheap? What do yall think of the above prices from the antique store? Everyone here seems to know the value on the used/antique market. I apologize for my rambling. I feel here, there and everywhere with this kitchen/hearth room!! Smiles:)...See MoreHelp, does this space make sense? Mixing decor styles
Comments (63)Rules are meant to be broken. Lol. If there is a new mantel i like the width. Smaller will encourage more accents on mantel. But all in the eye of the beholder. Art is personal. I like the clean look of this art. A new fixture would also enhance the room But just offering other options....See MoreRelated Professionals
