floor/door mat help
Comments (8)I had this same problem while I was living in Florida, and I had hardwood floors to boot, so I felt it was crucial to keep as much sand off of them as possible. I was constantly searching for the best ones to use; I don't like the coir mats because they're heavy to pick up, and they mat down over time, thereby reducing the amount of dirt or sand they would remove from shoes or bare feet. The best outdoor mats I found where those "astro turf" kind, the bright green (sometimes brown) ones with the long plastic tufts. You know the ones, they sometimes have a plastic daisy attached in one corner. Definitely not high-end or fashionable, but nothing got the job done like those. They would remove buckets of sand at the door, they were very lightweight, and you could hose them off & they'de be dry again in no time. Once I was hooked on them, I had trouble finding them though. I will investigate the LL Bean mat, as I do trust the opinions of people here....See MoreNeed recommendations for mats without latex or rubber backing.
Comments (2)Anti-fatigue mats are almost exclusively created using rubber or latex. And some are created from a 'gel' that is a bit suspect. It is the plasticizer in the rubber/latex products that will do the most amount of damage. There are heavy area rugs (either well built or so large that they are heavy) that have natural backings or woven backings (nothing to indicate an anti-slip product) will be just fine. There are excellent rug pads that will do very well underneath area rugs. These look like a felted or matted appearance (often a weird gray colour). These are the types of rug pads you want to look at. If in doubt, do not purchase. There are many companies that produce rugs that are 'safe for use with hardwood'. These are often safe for use with vinyl. How is that you ask? Because most vinyl floors are finished with a coating of urethane or polyurethane...just like hardwood. Here's a hint...Ikea sells rugs/pads with this designation but places like Target do not. You want to focus on 'mid-range' shops or higher. Entry level products are most likely a no-no. You really do want to see a tag that states "Safe for Use with Hardwood Floors". That's where I would start....See MoreIndoor door mat safe for vinyl plank flooring
Comments (3)At our front door, we have a large mat that's made out of the same rug as our stairs that we had bound. The size prevents it from sliding around. At our sink, we have a mat that is like indoor/outdoor carpeting. It too is large enough that, while it slides around some, it's only like an inch or two. arcy, the problem is that certain chemicals in rubber backings can permanently discolor vinyl. Also if anyone has their driveway sealed, be very careful as the chemicals in that can be tracked onto the vinyl as well, leading to permanent discoloration....See MoreIs there a non-slip door mat suitable for CoreTec LVP?
