Clematis, I've grown the 1977 Deep Secret for a number of years, and loved it so much I got another one several years ago. It's a pretty solid dark red most all of the time for me, with great form and substance, and ultra-fragrant. I live in coastal Calif., where the winter temps now rarely go below 30 F, and the summer temps average 78 F. Unfortunately, my only two pics of it are not fully open, but maybe they will help! It gets a nice black tone on the petals, which I love. The second pic has a bit of a pink tone, but that's more an artifact of the camera... red roses are tough to get accurately :-D
