Comments (22)I have mealie bugs on a few plants. I grow coleus as they are mealie bug magnets for faster detection. I went to Lowe's to buy a hand spray style over a hose spray poison. Oddly most everything hand spray was organic. I have no problem with organic except when I want a killing machine. I did find Seven, but it was not really what I wanted. My son stated that the pot growers are changing the market. Get photos! Congratulations on the anniversaries and Debra, I hope you are feeling better. Nothing worse than not feeling well. Ann your dish garden was a very nice gift. Does it have a drain hole? If not, you will have to get drainage. 3 of them are very tender. The 2 strings and the toe. Eventually the purple flower will grow off, but it may take a while. Do not pull it. I do not know why they do that. The rest should be pretty hardy. Well-draining soil do not overwater or over sun. Feed once in a while just not too much. In about 1-2 years that pink guy will pop off. It is the make of the plant but the epiphyllum underneath is probably a Queen of the Night. The saucer I never use them. I have flat tile for plant coasters. They will freeze. Get photos! I was just outside (Friday) and my hostas are starting to show summer heat damage. Serendipity is normally my first to go down and it has started to show sadder leaves. Big Daddy he does not like the heat either. And it is not even August yet. And he has prime real estate. Get photos! I am still repotting but I wait to do the hostas until they are dormant. I went out and bought some cheaper purslanes and I am believing that the ones I bought last year are designer divas and sterile. old dirt I have read where you can eat these, but they just do not look tempting. Get photos! It is Friday forge day! I have become addicted to 'Forged in Fire'. I do not miss my job, but I do miss having 3 different machine shops to work in. Stay cool everyone. Get photos! I have placed a subliminal message in my post. I hope you see it. Get photos!...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday on Tuesday 8624
Comments (24)Old_dirt, I’m with you…..here it is now Friday. The last week was eventful. Two routine vet visits, an ER vet visit and a follow up visit. Jingle, my 18 year old cat with hyperthyroidism is one who needed ER visit. One day after the vet visit where we discussed shaving him because he’s so matted, we noticed flies landing on him and hanging around him. We brought him in the house to check him out. There was a mat on his side that was icky looking so DHheld him while I went to cut it out. Instead, I cut his skin. Now we had an ER situation. So we went. They checked him over and found a number of open wounds where the bugs were starting to nest!! 😵😵💫😱 So they had to shave him down all over. They showed us a video where one whole side was shaved. That whole side looked like an open jacket when they folded it back. They told us that me cutting him was actually a blessing in disguise because the cut was just through the skin which they could use an adhesive to close. And cutting him made us bring him in for a shave which we were considering doing anyway. He has a little shirt on to protect his skin and warmth as he could not go outside for about 10 days. I spent much time last week sitting with him to keep him calm. Didn’t get much done in the garden, but it was blasted hot anyway. The last two days I spent time deadheading petioles and ugly leaves. Some of my hosta look like they have nematodes……not sure what to do if that’s the case. Sherry, I don’t think your 2nd pic is Patriot. Patriot has a dark green middle with white edges. Check it out. I agree with peren that your FB is FB. I also agree with peren when she says a garden is always changing and never done. It’s really a living thing all on its own. Paula, glad you’re ok. I never have been stung by a bee and hope it never happens!. Happy that your hostas are happy! Laurie and Ann, your yards always look wonderful. Sandyslopes, so nice you got some time at Lake Powell. Your Hop Springs Eternal looks very nice! IGG and old_dirt, Plantaginea is beautiful! Wish I had one….. bought one years ago but it didn’t survive. Here’s a pic of Jingle. It’s cool today so he opted to come in. Also a few hostas still looking good. Astral Bliss,Awakening Angel, GL Blue Banana. debra...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday or Tuesday 82724
Comments (10)Yes, we all are complaining about our gardens and the weather……☺️ I think every August is like this. Hostas are in decline, bug damage has taken its toll, lack of rain and lack of energy! Well that’s the garden cycle it seems, for hostas anyway. My Liberty looked so burned in the sun bed that I had Bert move it for me out front where it will get sun and shade. I may have to move others or protect them with nearby taller plants. It seems my sun bed is a lot of sun. The only hostas that aren’t fried are El Niño, High Society, Nigrescens, Sting and Snow Mouse. Hanky Panky doesn’t look too bad. Gabriel’s Wing needs a new location because the small butterfly bush is just covering it up. Lots of work, and no motivation. Still living without a main bathroom vanity, cabinet and sink……long story but the guy making the vanity for us has suffered three deaths in his close family in rather quick succession and we have no idea what’s going on at this point. Still waiting to post when everything is done.✔️ debra...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday 93024
Comments (7)Paula, pretty flowers, and I saw the pink boots. Very nice! I’m glad you didn’t need them with this storm. Two days without power is a really long time! That’s long enough to lose all the food in your fridge and freezer. Upsetting! It makes us realize how much we depend on having electricity. I’ve been staying away from news lately, so I was surprised to see how much damage and how many people were hurt or killed in the latest storm. And still a lot without power. Debra, it’s been a long time that you’re waiting for your bathroom to be finished. I hope you’ll have pics soon! I’ve been harvesting and eating a lot of tomatoes. I have onions drying on a rack. I’ve gotten good advice on the vegetable forum about how to grow better ones next year, but they did all right, considering. Cukes and zucchini have powdery mildew so I want to pull them this coming trash day. I’m hoping the tomatillos have time to fill out before it cools down too much. I like to make a year’s worth of salsa verde when I can. The deer ate the flowers before my gourds could form. I like growing ornamental ones and mini pumpkins to decorate for fall. I’m going to have to spray more or find some way to cover the sprawling ground crops. Good news is that I have resisted getting any more plants, and I’m feeling good about it! There are a few things I’m missing out on, but I’m getting around to other things like reworking paths and cleaning up my hillside gone wild with Heliopsis and Knautia. Knautia grows like a weed here! And I’ve been moving plants around that I’ve been wanting to get to for a while. It feels good to focus my energy into what I have, rather than adding more. It's Aster time .... White ones, ignore the lily of the valley fighting for space. I'm working on removing it. Pink ones Purple ones And Alma Potschke, the one name I remember! Even the outside cat, PK, likes the flowers....See MoreRelated Professionals
