Fun (and free) gift idea

Josh Wine Cellars is running a promotion where you can design your own label for one of their wines. My understanding is that they send you a label sticker that you place over the real label. The promotion is only for the label. You do not have to buy the wine. (If the label looks good, then I'll buy the bottle locally.)

Did I mention it is free?

Here is the label that I designed for dh. Yes, that's our dog.

What a great idea and promotion! I love the label you designed Jojoco— it’s beautiful AND witty!

adding… prohibited in Georgia and Alabama, there are problems with shipping alcohol to our states.

I went to our MN Garden Web swap last weekend and came home with a maroon flowering astranta, some cucumber seedlings (one Chinese), a brugmansia seedling, Impatiens balfouri, Monarda, red, Prairie Smoke (geum), a bi-colored hollyhock, Siberian Iris, white, Tiarella ÂDark EyesÂ and a pink canna. I consider a swap a success if I come home with fewer plants than I took. Also went to a friend's plant sale this weekend and bought some mini hostas. Ah, newbie gardeners...I'm sure we all have funny stories about what we grew when we were beginners. And even now I sometimes let a weed get to the blossom stage as I am not sure if it is something new that I wsowed or an unexpected gift. I dug out many of my trailing rockcress plants last year because they didn't bloom for two years so they must be weeds. This spring a patch I left bloomed beautifully and now I am sorry that I dug the others out. Will sow more! On the other hand, today I saw a plant that I have been watching as it forms a bloom and am sure it is a weed so it will be dug up tomorrow. Glad she found some helpful and enthusiastic gardeners with plants to share. I missed the local city swap on Saturday and the big Mother's Day weekend plant sale at the arboretum this year. Of course, I don't really NEED any more plants but it is fun to go look for something new or different. Also enjoy the time spent visiting with other gardeners and talking about gardening with someone and not having the other person's attention drift away or seeing glazed over eyes.

a really good-quality umbrella (men seem to like those huge golf ones that make some sort of territory-grabbing statement, which is really annoying in NYC). tickets to some event you think he'd like (though if you get him a pair, he may feel he HAS to take you--depends on the dynamics of the relationship) a new wallet--if you can see what style he's using already. My DH gets these from time to time, and they are useful, bcs his wear out eventually. Does he use a day planner or a PDA? Could you "up the ante" by getting him a new binder, or a new case for it? Perhaps a higher-quality one than he's got? And who cares whether he can get a better deal on it than you can--the point is not how much it cost, but that you thought of it in connection w/ him. And there are always books, if you know what he likes to read. Or DVDs. And, don't pressure yourself too much. Once people get to be grownups, the importance of presents falls a little--just one small, nice thing is great. Oh--oh--TOYS! the phrase "once people get to be grownups" made me think of this. Grownups don't get toys--not TRUE toys. We get "toys," w/ quotation marks. We get iPods instead of GameBoys, DVDs instead of action figures. Get him a toy, even if it's a smallish one. Lego makes these really great little things called XPods, I think, that are $10 or so, and you can make little bitty cars, or robots, or whatever is in the Pod. (here's a pretty good selection--they change the colors periodically, though) and for $20, they have kits for making dinosaurs, etc. And for $7, there are "mini Designer" sets The XPods are neat, bcs they result in a little result, which means they go together fast, and he can stick it on his computer monitor at work, or something, without looking like an immature geek. (not that a guy who puts together Lego dinosaurs is an immature geek, mind you...) I gave the Xpod to every one of the guys in my family at Christmas this year--they didn't go ballistic, but they were amused and they thought it was fun.

I'm still not sure what I am going to do. I have this huge pillowcase that I made that is full of wrapped presents that go along with his reloader. I bought him a reloading bench to go along with everything and bless his dad's heart he built the bench and I bought a big red riboon to put on it then tonight my father in law is going to bring the bench up and put it in front of the tree and I'm going to just put the reloader on it but now I am thinking of taking all of the things out of his bag and placing everything on the shelves like it's all organized but keep it wrapped. I bought him a bunch of powder and dyes but everything is wrapped so I thought it would look neat to have the entire bench together with all these wrapped gifts organized on it. What do you think?

How fun! I have to give a Secret Santa gift so I have an idea for the label already!

Apparently, you can ship bourbon labels to Georgia but not wine labels. 🙄

Very nice!

It's my SIL birthday and we often get him a nice bottle... went yesterday and bought a nice bourbon to give him tomorrow. I guess the label wouldn't have come in time. There's always next year.

What a great idea to keep in mind.

I'd love to see what others are putting together-- i passed the link on to my two nieces who are on tight budgets but I think I may do one for my DB and his fiance. My clever juices just arent flowing this week. I did make one as an example for my niece just to show her how it worked.

I ordered one but it’s nothing creative — just a funny pic of our dogs and the label says Merry Christmas Dad. 🤓

One of DH’s gifts from me is a virtual wine tasting so I’ll package it all together.
