Chip in my new quartzite PIP
Comments (12)I'm starting to have more concern over my white macaubas quartzite. Should it be smooth like glass all over or is a little texture okay? For example- the following pic is smooth, like glass. But where the veining is, there is a little texture, roughness. I can close my eyes and when I run my hand across my island I know immediately when I get to a "vein." But where this veining is, it is as smooth as glass again. I adore my slab, I just want to make sure this is normal. These counters are $$$$$ so I want to make sure it's all done correctly. I don't think the fabricator is super experienced with quartzite. Thanks for putting up with me ;)...See MoreNew fantasy macaubas quartzite countertop chipping
Comments (1)Sorry to hear that, Sandra. I feel for you and that sounds really frustrating. Can you post a photo of your stone from farther away? Just trying to get an overall look at the slab. Did you test it to confirm that it's really quartzite? Unfortunately, sealing don't do anything to prevent chips and scratches. But if it's quartzite it should not scratch so easily. One option for you would be to ask for a remnant from your slab so you can run the tests and really check the hardness. That's really the only way to know what you've got. Good luck!...See MoreMont Australian Pearl Quartzite / white lux QZ. advice please
Comments (7)Half my question is missing not sure why. I think I have my countertops narrowed down to my top two favorites. For a little background I live in an old farmhouse and I’m putting in white shaker cabinets in a long galley style kitchen -unfortunately I cannot have an island. I will be having a farm sink as well. I fell in love with Mont Australian pearl quartzite. I’m a little concerned about staing and wondering if anybody has this in their home and can give me any insight on how happy or unhappy you are??...See MoreContractor chipped island countertop. Comments (26)I'm surprised this has gone on such a tangent on who caused the damage. I left in the morning with no chips on the counter. The contractor's team came and worked throughout the day. I came home that evening and noticed the chip with a piece of the remnant on the ground. I immediately let the contractor know. He was not personally there that day but he never insinuated it could've been anyone but his team. I'm not sure how this part is even in question. Unless someone broke into my house to break the counter and ran out without anyone noticing, his team were the only people there that day. This is a silly point to even debate. As for those saying porcelain chips so I should just deal with it, how does this logic translate to other purchases? Cars dent easily. Should you "live with" a new car that the dealership dented while pulling it out of the lot? To be honest, I didn't know porcelain counters are more prone to chipping. Everything I read said porcelain is durable. We weren't set on porcelain, we just picked the design we liked the best. It happened to be porcelain. I think it's perfectly reasonable to say my friends may do the same thing in the future, will I ask them to pay for a whole new countertop? Of course not. But I didn't pay them to put it in either....See MoreRelated Professionals
