What do you want from us ? What is the budget? How do you use the space ? Where does the door go ? My fisrt step would be ditch the drapes and that clock. Gray, cream and brown is what you want since I see more blue than much else. Yes you need new seating some actual art no family pics but replace those with art . I see that door is porbably the entry door. A to scale floor plan is a must done on graph paper showing every window , doorway where those lead and every meausrement clearly marked then post here in jpeg format in a comment and also all the answers to the question here in comments DO NOT START another post

We have bought new drapes ( light gray with a little beige) New rug is coming with dark & light shades of gray. The layout of this room is a problem in placing furniture. Thinking maybe a smaller sofa and 2 chairs. The tv over the mantle was my goal but it gets really hot in that area.

1. The first and most important decision should have been the seating as it subsequently drives layout, rug’s size/style, and accessory choices. Hopefully you can return the drapes and/or the rug, if required. Are you open to a color combination other than grey, cream, brown (ie: rust and/or blue). Are you willing to repaint to lighten room and subsequently make it feel larger? See examples below (ignore layouts).

2. It’s important to measure your room, create a floor plan and test possibilities before buying furniture. To get helpful advice, you’ll need to provide that info/include structural components.

3. You mentioned farmhouse, but there are different looks within that gendre. Have you looked on line/saved any inspiration pictures and could share and will you be keeping anything else in the room? Suggest a simple window treatment and consider less/and larger items on walls.

This is what I’m thinking ( which is why I’m asking for help) dark gray sofa, or accent chair and a beige / tan chair/ recliner. Our end tables were built by a close friend ( brown stain wood) tv table as well. I would like accent colors ( accessories) I’m lost when it comes to furniture and what to get. The sectional will be gone when new furniture is purchased. The room size is 13.5 x 16.5 with 3 doorways

OK so draw the room on paper showing where the 3 doorways are and the windows. We can't help with layout & furniture size without this information. It doesn't have to be fancy drawing. I don't see a TV in any of your pictures. Have you seen the actual rug colors or did you order it online?

Follow all preceding advice! Reconsider your color choices sine grey, cream, brown are not always compatible given the undertones which could run blue, yellow, green or red. Furniture fabrics should be given first consideration. Farmhouse does not mean blah. Check out farmhouse styles and save to your Houzz Idea Book. I would not put TV over fireplace for several reasons : HEAT, viewing height, and viewing distance. Return drapes and rugs until you provide more detail to this post.

Rug and drapes need to be returned now. Those are things best chosen after furniture pieces .IMO since this is the TV room get that placed first since the seating will need to face that. Do you use the FP for actual heating or just ambiance ? I think in that space the TV will have to go above the mantel on an arm that can bring it down for viewing. Is this the only space for the TV? BTW those drapes and that rug no way together anyway. Farmhouse style is IMO anything you want it to be so do not get locked into a style . Start by the sofa why dark gray is asmall space and why gray at all? Before buying anything you need a plan for all of the large pieces .No chair infront of the FP and IMO a soafa and 2 matching chairs the person who wants the recliner can use an ottoman which will give you one more seat in a pinch. Not just the room size but every wall and , doorways and window size too. on the drawing.

Hold off on rug! and window treatment. In order: layout, look, couch, chair(s), rug, accessorizes. This is really important and take your time.

1. I'm a pet owner too. Do you intend to keep your new sofas covered or will you be looking for pet performance fabric?

2. Is this the main space in your home where you hang out and watch TV? How many of you do you need to seat in here?

3. Your drawing is good. If you provide measurements, you will get even better help with furniture choices and layout.

4. Can you easily see your TV from its current location and where your sofa is placed?

5. I adore your current rug and am sad to hear you are looking for a new one.

These are examples of Farmhouse style. You'll need some distressed wood pieces. Slipcovered sofas are easy for these rooms. Baskets and natural materials for rugs.

Your drapes are too short, the wrong color and not mounted correctly.

No one swags drapery panels back unless the design of the draperies is very traditional and heavily detailed.

Can you post pictures of your tv and fireplace wall? I think your end tables have the farmhouse look. I agree to get furniture place and then pick rug, curtain and other accessories.

Without your measurements, here's a layout I imagine. Entry walkway is clear. TV on right of window mounted on wall with an extension arm. Narrow console below.

Measurements are 13.5 wide , 16.5 length.

Sounds like a cozy place already! For living room furniture, I wouldn't include the path from the entryway so that can remain clear for the walkway. The idea of the layout below is to not have anything in the path of the entryway, assuming it's used regularly. You didn't mention TV size so not sure if it can mount on the right of the window. Once you can decide the preferred furniture layout you can measure for appropriate rug size needed. I agree with above comments about waiting on curtains until after furniture selections.

Tv is a 55 inch ( NOT my choice- my husbands 🤦🏻‍♀️)

Ah yes, every man's paradise includes a 55-inch TV and recliner, lol.

In my small cape cod style house (1596 sq ft) a previous owner moved the kitchen to the breezeway (dumb move) but it gave us a small den where the old kitchen was located. In there I have 2 recliners ( I'm tired of many on this forum saying no to recliners, I don't live in a magazine) and 2 swivel chairs. The TV is on the only wall. Maybe that might work for you

The glare from the slider makes it hard to get the whole room clearly.

I get you!! I’m not trying to make this room SL magazine ready, I just want it to be a cozy feel but everything coordinate together. I’m just not good at decorating , but I do try . I do like you tv table !!

Here's my take for a cozy comfy room...

I suggest you paint the shiplap wall in a warm white.

A comfy sofa and recliner in a soothing relaxing colour scheme.

Curtains on the front double window and bamboo roman shade blinds on the single window.

A new (washable) area rug (Ruggable).

Hang your TV on the wall with a swivel arm (not too high up).

A newer style ceiling fan (if you need a fan) or a chandelier style ceiling light.

I think a walnut square coffee table can be placed in the middle of the living room, the sofa can be changed to off-white, and the table above the fireplace can also be changed to walnut.
