It's a very pretty runner with the dining rug, but I think it might drive me bonkers there by the stove. Ideally, just my opinion, I would look for something closer to the length of the island or a smaller one just in front of the sink.

too long. I don't think a 3x5 would work either. if you must have a rug I’d probably only out a 2x3 there.

Suggest the next size down and centered.

The only other option is 3/5 or 2/3.. seems like I am not finding a great solution. I think since the sink/stove r in the corner, it’s hard to find a good fit.

The one Maureen shows looks to be 3x5. How wide is the space?

IMO a tripping hazard so I never do runners , sometimes an anti fatique one but usally nothing in tiny spaces for sure

Try folding a sheet 2x3 and place up against cabinets at sink. Then fold it 3x5 and center in middle, width and length wise to help you decide on a preferred size.

Regarding the style, I think a medallion rug may not be the best choice there and look for a more simple design and even look for washable or stain resistant).

If placing at sink, consider a vinyl mat with a fun pattern, which will be very practical also.

If it were me I'd go without it, your floor is beautiful, and easier to keep the hardwood clean than the runner.

Maureen I love the patterned ones you shared. Do u have the sources ? Thx for the input regarding medallion; had not considered that it may not work.

Is the runner there mere for decorative purposes? If so, I think it looks better without it. The runner makes the space feel a bit tighter and cramped. It also really grabs your eye and detracts away from the really nice subtle design elements you already have going - your upholstered print, the blue on the island, your countertops.

Did you add it because you feel your space is missing color or decoration? If so, is there another way more subtle way we can help you brainstorm getting that in your space?

Kendrah thanks so much for your input!! Yes, I thought my space needed something to make it look better. Maybe I’ll just do a simple 2/3 at my sink.

Area is 42/92; I see now that the runner makes the space look crowded; maybe a 2/3 at my sink is best.

I like it w/o a rug…also makes the space look a bit bigger. If you feel you need a rug, try the 2x3.

I have a similar kitchen layout. I like the look of no rug and did without for many years but the floor does wear with a lot of use so now I have a rug. When I have a party I just roll it up & put it in the garage. I know all the arguments about tripping hazard, etc but it works for me.

Try turning it along the stove wall. It will service both the sink area and stove area.

(Excuse the mess I am working on a sewing project and the island is the perfect height to cut.)
