Well, I have worked on this bathroom till I am almost done with the entire thing! Got the sink painted, then decided to do the cabinets, got those done then decided I wanted to paint the walls,, got one coat on the walls and am thinking the floor might just have to be next, I know all of this is not going to hold up forever, but I am hoping it will, at least until we decide to remodel. olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? i removed the grout from my kitchen tile with this....but the thing amberm is talking about might be an improved model. It isn't hard to do, just time consuming. The problem might be getting every spot of lighter grout off the old darker stuff, but if it looks rough, you could use grout colorant to darken the lighter grout in the places where you can't get it off.

Shower door crevices are difficult to clean. I start with Liquid Comet Bathroom Cleaner, leaving it on for 10 minutes, and then scrubbing with the rough green side of a Scotch Brite scrubbing sponge and then rinsing. If you see an improvement, you know you are on the right track, but you may need to repeat it a few times. People make the mistake of using these products without letting them set and do their job. Set a timer for 10 minutes so you are not tempted to mess with it too early. Another thing that will work but is not recommended because it can damage the aluminum, is a solution of TSP and water. I have used it on old aluminum windows and it cleaned them well. Don't let that sit on the metal, though. On the marble/cultured marble, until you know what you have, you might want to try using a razor blade scraper to very carefully scrape the gunk away. You want to be careful not to gouge the marble, but with some skill, you can get the blade at just the right angle and scrape off the junk. And yes, a canister steamer is great in a bathroom, especially for getting into the crevices. You might want to google "how to tell the difference between marble and cultured marble."
