Not to polish wood furniture?
Comments (25)At Colonial Williamsburg they wax all their original finish furniture It provides a layer of protection to the finish...no matter what the finish. And what Colonial Williamsburg does is good enough for me....And a lemon oil polish, which is mostly mineral oil won't do any harm to a cured finish....that is a finish that has been drying for a week or more. However some cheaper lacquer finishes will become gummy when you apply an oil polish or dusting agent....but that gummy thing happens from the oils on your hands or from spilled bits of oil in the case of a table. A good quality paste wax containing carnauba is always a good protection for your furniture....See MoreCleaning Wood Furniture
Comments (2)If you can find a product called Royal Guardsman Furniture polish, that's what my mom uses on her wood furniture. Her furniture was new in the 1940's, and she keeps it looking good with this polish. It's a white creaMmy liquid, a cleaner and polish in one. She pours it on, spreads it, lets it sit, then wipes off with a clean dry cloth rag. Her furniture looks good, even though it has survived three generations of children's food spills, crayons, etc....See MoreOK, seriously - HOW do you clean wood (or faux wood) blinds?
Comments (45)figured I would bring this post back to life since I am now in need of cleaning my faux wooden blinds lol! in response to the last persons post re: using Windex, do not use Windex wipes. not sure about the spray but i happen to have a pack of windex wipes next to me and it says not for use on any wood type surfaces. pledge makes good wipes for that but you would prob need a few packages if your blinds were reallyyy dirty. anyway i am going to try dawn soap with warm water since mine are filthy! i had a small fire me in my room last summer and the insurance company had someone come in to clean the walls, blinds Etc and only bc i had to take my bounds down to fix a broken tilt cord, i just now noticed how horribly they "cleaned" them. (see picture reference) so ill post the before pictures now and after pictures once im done. in the pics im attaching now show how bad the back side of the blinds were that dont face towards me vs the 3rdnpic which is what i usually have them set to..ugh! at least 8 only have 1 side to really scrub at vs dusting the other cleaner side lol!...See MoreHow would you clean dry sap off Trex?
Comments (17)The person who said to live with it is exactly correct. We have a 680-sqft composite deck and we purposely built it around a 40-ft Norway pine. We were managing sap removal fairly well until the summer of 2021 when pretty much the entire deck got covered, and I mean covered, in sap. Couldn't find even 1 square foot without sap on it. Never seen anything like it. Even our Hannamint furniture took a beating. So we cut the tree down a few weeks ago. We have tried Goo Gone, soapy water, power washing, composite deck cleaner, scrubbing, rubbing, scraping. With the density of the droplets from 2021 we are ending up smearing the sap so instead of a million little white sap stains, now the sap is essentially pressed into the fine groves in the deck mold...so a broader white spot appears. So, it's either live with the small white spots or live with the remnants of the rubbing. Neither is ideal. We are simply going to give it a washing with the Krud Cutter deck and fencc cleaner to remove the surface stickiness and live with a white spotted deck. That is, until I call to have someone come and rplace 100% of the boards. That's the only way to get a totally sap free deck for us, is to replace it all....See MoreRelated Professionals
