I had a disturbing conversation today
Comments (21)I do not know enough about farm subsidies to continue an objective exchange of views along that line. But I think I can defend the concept of subsidies. Ultimately, the fate of farming depends upon the weather. History shows that death by starvation can and has occured to millions during a year (365 days) of drought. The USA stands out as the single country that has consistently been able to offer relief in the form of grain - usually wheat and corn. This grain is stored in towering silos in the farm belt. This stored grain comes from farms, subsidised or not. The subsidies were most likely decided by politicians who govern with the consent of the governed. And I have a deep conviction that they have to. I believe that the economist Adam Smith may have said that Government must do only those things that the people cannot do for themselves. I believe that some of these things are Police and Fire Protection, roads and other communication........and farm subsidies. I have to believe that there are enough brilliant and dedicated meteorologists out there who are working hard to predict the weather to the extent that we will not have to depend upon the contents of those silos for our daily bread. But if Mother Nature decides otherwise I will be very thankful that they are there....See MoreI had a bath today, unintentional..any tips on how to make repair
Comments (2)Where I live PVC is not allowed for incoming clean water. It is used for waste pipes only. You might want to check city/county code before you replace these pipes with PVC. If you ever want to sell it might be an issue with a home inspection. A) Because it is clean water, your husband already cut a hole in the duct work. Cut more so you can stick your head and a flashight in and see if there is any standing water. If there isn't just cut out that section (you would have to anyway), patch in a new section and make sure the seams are wrapped really good with with that silver tape. Can't remember right now what it is called. Not Duct tape tape or tuck tape, it is silver and for duct work. B) Since it is clean water you can sponge it up or let it evaporate. C) It depends on how wet the plywood got and the weather. If it is really humid where you live and you can't turn the A/C on (A/C pulls humidity out of the air) it will take longer. Either way, turn a fan on blowing into the room to get air moving, the faster things dry out the less chance of mold and rot and warping. When you think the plywood is dry, give it another day or two with a fan on it....See MoreHad house appraised today
Comments (5)Five days ago you only wanted to pocket $165 000. ;) Glad your appraisal went well. The appraised amount is not in stone--there will be some variation among appraiser's findings. As explained in your other thread, asking more that the appraised amount limits some of the buyers' ability to come up with sufficient closing funds. In my area, if the asking price is fair, the house will usually sell for the full listing price amount. So I cannot really give you a number if your region is an always-haggle zone. Good luck; hope everything goes quickly and smoothly for you....See MoreI had an interesting day today?! (Long)
Comments (4)Msmarion, what an uplifting day you had! Finding that tape from a church in your hometown is weird. An omen I think, of further good things to come. You deserve some breaks, I am pleased that you got some....See MoreRelated Professionals
