Organizing the Home Furniture Home Office

help with this office/bedroom

I'd like to keep the couch and the dresser. I also need a desk and some bookshelves/storage here to hide the clutter. I can repaint, but no idea about colors. The room gets morning light but then is rather dark later. Would appreciate your advice on the walls, layout, which desk/bookshelf combo to get. thanks!

I'd be happy to help if I can! Do you happen to have the room dimensions you can post? Wondering if this is the only layout option for the dresser and sofa.

My first thought is utilizing a desk with a built in bookcase on one side (or even both sides depending on window dimensions). Something to frame out the window area especially if this is the only placement for the desk as well as provide storage to limit clutter.

I notice you have a bike to store as well, maybe a wall hook would help keep it from cluttering the corner?

In this space since the desk is right under the window, I think a shade would be a better choice than a curtain as well. Look into a Roman shade, maybe a light filtering option so you still get some of the natural light even if you want to have it closed for privacy.

A rug, new lamp, different window treatment, painting the wall hung bookshelves would go a long way with this room. Get some kind of cabinet with storage to replace the item that the lamp is on.

i dislike walking into the side of a bed when you walk in a room. my suggestion is to place the bed on the wall opposite the doors with a nightstand on the side straight in the door and a desk on the opposite side which can also be used as a night table that side of the bed. use that little offset of the room as the office. office storage (files or bookcases) could be under the window on the other wall. that would also give a flat surface to prop a suitcase on. put the dresser on the short wall opposite the desk and put the upholstered bench at the foot of the bed for putting on shoes and a place for pillows when you take them of to sleep. I think blackout drapes or curtains are a must also for better sleep.I'll try to find better pictures as examples and post

Went out and bought ladders today. Everything else is repurposed from the house. The “blocky desk” is a filing cabinet and it stays. I also got some cute vintage farm art for the walls, but will paint the room before hanging them. But thanks for the tips everyone!

Reality - centered desks look great until you add computers to the mix. Then you have the battle of the cords and the back of the monitor between you and the door and the first thing people see when walking into the room. That said, it is exactly how I have my home office set up. I am at my desk 10 hours a day and don't want to be staring at a wall. I am getting an outlet in the floor in my office and another one in my living room to eliminate cords going across the floor to the center of the room.

Regardless of forever home or not it would make sense to utilize the closet better for all of your 'office' stuff so if that means getting an outlet put in there so the printer and all your stuff on the tall shelving can go in there - that would be wise. Then, daybed or not, replace the tall shelving and nightstand with a continuous low closed storage furniture piece - maybe like this photo - this will open up the room visually. This furniture piece can function as a nightstand and office storage. Closed storage is your friend in this space. Replacing the closet doors with slider doors would allow for the 'office' to function easier. Maybe the inside of the closet is converted to half 'closet' for guests use and half 'office' with shelves for printer and office supplies. Then, once you decide on daybed or not I'd repost an updated photo and we can help with rearranging art. I think where you have it now is not doing the room any justice. I could see it consolidated/edited on the wall where the tall shelving is as that will create a focal point.

Thank you. Would you not keep the white color for the room? I'm planning to repaint it, as it needs it, but was planning to stay with white, because the room doesn't get a lot of light. What do you mean by hung bookshelves, where would you put them?

How many days/hours a week do you spend working in this office? How often are the couch and dresser used?

All the time, the couch is made into a bed and used and the office is used for work. I really wish I had more storage for various items, including linens, and bookshelves for the books, and just to hide the clutter. If it's a must I could get rid of the dresser, but it is nice quality and I like it
