The move had its issues, and I had to leave many plants I wanted to take behind, but the overall result is good. I just finished planting 124 daylilies on Nov. 1, and I'm still weeding and mulching. I hope to have that done by Wed. night when we're supposed to get our first freeze of 32 degrees. I'm lucky to have gotten such mild weather all the way into November. Indianapolis sometimes gets a hard freeze at the end of September.

I planted the first dozen evergreens next to my house on the back side, which faces south. I'm hoping they will have enough shelter there to flourish. Most of the lilies are planted in four long rows in the middle of my backyard where the soil is black and rich. I think the previous owner must have had a large vegetable garden out there at one time. A couple of small groups are planted on either side of my deck steps. I wanted to plant some in front of the house in a flower bed that already existed. Unfortunately, my pine tree and weeping cherry shade it so much, it only gets about 3 hours of sun. I guess I need to plant azaleas, hostas and impatiens there next year. The neighbors say they've never seen deer on the street in 23 years, but there are a few wooded areas nearby, so I decided to put all the daylilies in the fenced backyard. I took photos of the first ones I planted back in September, but they're on my phone. Maybe I can add them to the post later.

I love the house and my new neighborhood. I'm back at the church where I was a member as a teenager and doing lots of things with new and old friends there. It's wonderful to live so near my sister, cousins, college and high school friends. My social life is full, and I'm not at all lonely anymore. All of that is well worth giving up some daylilies.

Sounds like things went about as well as possible. Sorry you had to leave some daylilies behind, but has you said, having friends and families is more important.

Sounds great Debra. Family is important. I know the feeling of leaving so many daylilies behind but getting to create some new spaces is rewarding. This year has been tough with health issues (husband) and then the deer here so thinking it may be time to start fencing off some spaces. Lucky you have fencing already in place. Would love to see pics when you have the chance. I'm winding down here to close the beds for this season. Several of the plants I got from you previously did really well here this year once I moved them to a new bed space.

Julia - I'm sorry to read your husband has continued to have health issues. That is so stressful. I'm still working in my beds today, trying to finish mulching before tonight's freeze and possible light snow. Glad to know some of the plants you got from me did well last season.

To paraphrase the line from "Field of Dreams," where there are daylilies, the deer will come.

Kay - I was so lonely last year after my husband died. Being here is exactly what I needed. I'm glad you haven't had the deer trouble so many of us have experienced. I may eventually plant a few daylilies in the front, but not many. I just don't want the hassle of having to spray deterrent all the time like I did in Nashville.

We are now dealing with the bucks chasing the doe.(s). Deer hunting season has started here so hopefully the population gets reduced.

Debra, The med the oncologist put me of was different than yours and it would up leaving me pretty crippled due to bone pain for four months. I tried braces and injection and then had it x-rayed as it felt broken (a knee) wouldn't you know). I quit the medication (Exomestane) after figuring it was the only cause left and it started to improve after a week. It is finally all but recovered (6 weeks later) and we will see what the new med does.

Julia - I hope hunting will reduce your deer population!

Kay - So sorry to read the meds you were on caused bone pain. I was lucky the Anastrozole didn't cause me any side effects. I was able to stop taking the estrogen blocker in October since it had been five years of taking it.
