I've had great luck with Fishmate filters with built in UV. I have to clean them often, but all that takes spraying the filter pads with a stream of water from my garden hose. They different sizes depending on the actual flow at filter level.

"The filter was rated "Up to 12 months", Hee hee,don't count on it,the key is UP TO. Rely on routine inspections and your pressure monitor to decide when it's time to change. If a filter is dirty after only 1 month of use it's time to replace it. If a filter go's 6 months and still isn't dirty, it's wastful to change at the time. As usual,there can be exceptions,like in 6 months without becoming restricted by dirt ,prudent to make certain air isn't bypassing filter.

Failure of the membrane CAN cause water supply problems but that is under unusual cases. Unless, of course, your incoming water is not pretereated and contains high amounts of calcium, iron and such. If the water is unable to pass through the membrane either due to membrane scale build-up or lack of water pressure, then your tank won't fill up, at least not very fast. The vast majority of 'no water' calls are due to the bladder in the tank, either loss of pressure or being water logged. Membranes need to be replaced when the TDS count fall below manufacturer's recommendations. ROs limits may range from 92% to around 80% rejection (concentrate/waste vs permeate/product) for cheaper models. Some membranes can last only a few months due to poor water quality to ten years or more with high quality units. Chlorine and other gases may shorten the life of TFC-type membranes. The biggest enemy is when some softeners run out of softening capacity and leak iron and calcium through. Then the RO becomes, unwittingly, a mini-softener. Andy Christensen, CWS-II

What type of filter -- sand, DE, cartridge? Higher than normal pressure is caused by some sort of blockage on the pressure side of the pump (downstream from it). The most common cause is a dirty filter, but it can also be chalked up to a partially blocked valve or pipe, some crud in the filter gauge, etc. Also in DE and cartridge filters, sometimes the elements get impacted with dirt, minerals, stuff like that.
