Well, it will be tight. Consider that typical kitchen countertops are about two feet deep. Consider that you'll need some room for a chair and, to maintain proper ergonomics, some room for a keyboard tray or such, and there certainly won't be any room for anything behind the computer and chair if you go the long way in the room. Some other things to think about: - You might consider building "up" as much as possible, with either shelves or even upper cabinets mounted on the wall to hold things like paper, desk supplies, etc. - If you currently have a separate printer and scanner, consider purchasing one of those "all-in-one" units. I've seen them for as little as $100 or so. While I'm not crazy about the fact that they cannot be upgraded and if one part fails the entire item may have to be junked, they're not huge investments but they will save you a lot of space over separate pieces.

Bunny, and anyone else needing something to prop up your book or iPad (I do the same Bunny, always look things up while reading!), I highly recommend getting an iPad pillow. Figure out exactly how you'll use the pillow before you order one. I have the polka dot universal beanbag pillow because I can shape it in any position I want, especially when laying on my side in bed reading or iPadding. :) It has a slot for a phone too.
