Kitchen backsplash & bathroom-opinions please!
Comments (7)Hi, the tiling job is in a brand new house, done by a sub-contractor of our builder. We didnt really have a choice but trusted our building to select someone who does good work. The other subs he hired seemed to do great work, and the floor looked good so I guess we assumed he knew how to do backsplash for kitchen & bath... We talked to the builder & sub - today, he started to rip down the tile, all the while destroying our brand new sheetrock.. We had to basically tell him how to re-do it, explain step by step. cross your fingers! Going to re-post this with tile in the subject line to get more responses, please take a look! Took more pics since he started re-doing the tiles.. Here is a link that might be useful: kitchen & bath tile pics...See MoreKitchen sneak peek/ Backsplash opinions
Comments (27)I chose to do snow white for the grout (debated between that and the bright white). I'll post a picture after it's grouted. Francoise...the corner cabinet is going to stay open. That was a last minute change to our plan when our cabinet maker suggested an articulated door for the corner uppers. I don't care for the function/feel of a hinged door so I spontaneously decided to have an open corner. I tweaked it a bit after seeing remodelqueen's corners on the hidden gems thread and set it back an inch so it wouldn't look like a cabinet without doors (boy do I love this website!). I'll post more pictures of the cabinets once everything is in....See MoreBacksplash? No backsplash? What kind of backsplash?
Comments (25)didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )...See MoreNeed kitchen backsplash opinions
Comments (9)You have a lot of natural light in there. We did something similar in our last house (just an 'update' since we weren't staying long either) and went from white multi-fleck counters to dark. I was a little freaked out at first but we had a lot of light also and it wasn't closed in or dark feeling at all like I had feared. I am not a color expert and have backsplash woes of my own - can you find a color in your floor that is still a warm tone but not quite as dark as what you have shown here? Have you thought about waiting for the counters to go in before selecting a backsplash to get a better feel for the space? Oh - I almost missed it! Of the two I prefer the lighter one for sure. We went with something similar with ours too. If it helps at all (either for the good or what not to do) here is a pic of ours and it was a much smaller space. Excuse the white outlets I know they stick out like a sore thumb. I just wanted to offer encouragement since I know the feeling. :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
