Olive Bailey Langdon Hosta blooming Nov. 7th

We had a hot bunch of days in October here, and while most of my hostas are winding down, OBL and Remember Me, and several others are not showing any signs of going to sleep.

That is a Yuletide Camellia, and a coleus, and a cyclamen keeping her company.

What beautiful specimens! You are so lucky to be enjoying your fabulous plants. I imagine you having something in bloom year round. I have some snow in the forecast for Wednesday....sigh.

How lucky indeed Babka! Even though we still have not had a freeze, my hostas are done….. but my little Morello Agastache is still blooming! Hard to believe….. usual freeze date is mid October.

It's been a few days since I checked the gallery and notice I can contribute some stuff I haven't seen posted yet. I have a couple of shots of Fortunei Hyacinthina, beginning with this patch in full shade in my backyard. And here a couple of sporting leaves on a division I took from that patch last year. I noticed it sporting after I'd put it out on my plant sales table for a couple of days already! Needless to say that upon discovery it became a keeper, can't wait to see what it will show this spring. Last but not least, a small Fragrant Blue, which for me has been a slow grower for 3 years and it finally put on a growth spurt in its 4th year, last year. Yes, that's a Golden Tiara to the right...

My 'Olive Bailey Langdon' is only first year and my only O. I look forward to seeing her grow up to be a beauty like the ones shown here, hopefully. I will have at least two more Os ... have a division of Orange Marmalade to pick up in the spring from my daughter and I will have On Stage as a new arrival in my garden for 2014...thanks to Paula from our Florida Division for enabling :-)

Yes, near San Jose, CA. Sorry I left that out of my id info. It used to be there and I haven't posted in a couple years and failed to notice that it wasn't there this time. Hostas come up here in early March, as do the tulips and daffodils. Our plum trees generally bloom the second week in February. I used to live in the Chicago area so know what you guys go through. I'm just so happy that I can get some of these to grow here. -Babka

I have too many young-uns! So ask again next winter. -Guacamole -Serendipiry -Old Glory -August Moon -Sagae -I have a solid green NOID that I just think is wonderful. It was wrongly ID'd as Invincible at the nursery. It has similar qualities but no way is it near identical. It forms a beautifully dense mound almosst 6 feet across, has around 4 to 4 1/2 feet long arching scapes and is slug-proof. For a solid green with no puckering or wavy edges or such, it must be good to make this list. lol Les

Never had a hosta flower this late, but I still have some from the Halcyon family with green leaves, The last few evenings have dropped to the high forties, and the deciduous trees are turning fabulous colors. So we DO get fall colors here, but also we can have cyclamen, pansies, and snapdragons flowering all winter, along with camelias and bouganvillias.

Around Thanksgiving, I play "lady frost fairy" and cut off all the Hosta foliage in my pots. They will emerge with fresh eyes around March. Very different from my years living in Chicago area.
