Need entry way plant suggestions :o)
Comments (9)What about 2-3 truly wonderful pots - 2 smaller ones to the left of the door and one big one to the right- planted with a lime or yellow coleus, salmon impatiens, purple torenia, and a cascade of lysimachia nummularia don't know its common name)? After frost, you could remove the blackened plants and using the soil in the pots as anchor, "artfully" arrange some greens and some berried branches and string with some small Christmas tree lights. As for the area in front of the pots, I'd look around for plants that flower at different times but with great colorful foliage in at leats 3 seasons. Hostas now come in many beautiful colors and color combinations and a few have white flowers that smell like gardenia (usually in August here). Coral bells too, like the 'Lime Rickey' already mentioned, and 'Amber Waves' and 'Marmalade'can add season-long interest. Color from foliage has the advanatge of not having to be deadheaded and not attracting bees and their potential stings. Not very helpful flowerwise, but whatever you do have fun with it....See MorePossibly flipping DR and Kitchen, Advice Needed
Comments (7)emilyam819, I am sorry, I thought I replied to your comment, must not have hit the submit button and I got rid of the tab so now I am reconstructing my response :-( Behind our bay window is a finished enclosed porch, we will not be flattening it and we also have a lot of pipes in that short wall to the right of the door from the porch that we don't want to move, so I don't think we can do the expanded laundry/mudroom/entry way you suggested. I did try working with the bay window kind of like what buehl showed in this thread HERE, but those five openings into my breakfast room area just make that area DIFFICULT to work with if I stick with the kitchen/breakfast room area. C X, my biggest concern about putting the DR in the breakfast room/kitchen is the traffic flow. The size of the current DR is so much better for the kitchen, but I don't know how the traffic flow is going to work. I have been playing around with the idea you suggested (modified), it has some potential to kind of separate the new kitchen area from the current breakfast room (and some of the kitchen) to make a room, just haven't figured it out yet....See MoreEntry way lighting suggestions

Comments (7)I don't mind the table and mirror and can't really think of anything besides art that would fit on that wall. Can't see the table details well but could it be painted? How about red to match your lovely door? What would say "fresh and cozy" to you for that space? Have you thought of a new light fixture? A runner and a larger rug in the entrance could look good. I don't find the clock visible from the door to be welcoming so I'd be tempted to remove it....See MoreRelated Professionals
