Is my washer's drain connection safe?

I just moved and the movers didn't connect the washer and dryer. I feel pretty confident about the connections to the water supply. The original hoses leaked so I replaced them, opened the water valve, and tested again for leaks. After some tightening, they are good.

The drainage hose didn’t reach the drain and the washer couldn’t be moved to make that work. The drainage tube can’t be removed from the washer (not easily at least—LG top loader). So I got an extender with a U on the end, which fits better in the drain, as the original didn't want to make the bend (tight space).

The only thing I worry about is the connection to the extender. I pushed the hose into the extender as far as it would go and tightened the clamp. (See pic.) I ran a test rinse and drain cycle and it didn’t leak. Does this look okay? Or would you do more? I do intend to babysit the first several uses.

Your drainage hose is required to enter directly into the stand pipe without all that fluff attached.

Thank you. So I would need an LG washing machine repair person to replace the hose that comes from the machine (it's not long enough)? I don't want to start opening up the washing machine.

That is very high and you could damage your pump or your washer may not drain properly. Do you have a sink in the room that you could drain to? Otherwise, you may need to have a plumber modify the drain. If that's not possible, a small tank and sump pump could be used, but that would be a pain.

Well I found a "heavy-duty" rubber hose at my local Ace Hardware but it's so rigid that I can't push the appliance close to the wall where it was before. This is more of a rubber pipe than a rubber hose!

A Tee that will replace the Wye might fit the space. Without seeing it, it is difficult to suggest what will fit the space; it may be OK if you can place the standpipe P trap at the height of the Tee that will replace the Wye. A Ptrap needs to be at the same height as its Tee connection to a vented drain. Not higher. Therefore, a downward slope (45 degrees) into a Wye is always bad when unvented. So, the answer to your question is "No, no good, no this will not work." Where the standpipe P trap is now, it requires a vent. That is one solution. Otherwise, it has to be a Tee. That is another solution. Not a 45 degree wye branch. Do you know what a Sanitary Tee is?

I agree with Alice. A partial that's going to get worse. "nothing else is backing up" is probably because the lines are longer, and they are backing up, but not to the point you can see it. I had this issue in my old house and came to find out it was tree roots invading the old cast main drain under the front lawn. Had to have it routed out, then had to apply root killer. Fortunately, the tree was very old snd vigorous, so it didn't kill the tree.

Why do they sell the extension if you're not supposed to use it? I see many videos online about extending the hose.

Your drainage hose is short, because the distance to the standpipe needs to be short for the machine pump to work properly. You don't go adding extensions to it. Your washing machine is too far from the stand pipe if the hose does not reach. That's a MOVE THE MACHINE CLOSER issue.

LG's own web site seems OK with drain hose extensions.

The only thing I saw was not to insert the hose over 96 inches high.

You should be OK to use what you did.

I would monitor it to make sure leaks don't appear in time.

Given what the first guy said, I tried again to get the hose to fit. I’ve spent so much time in the back of that washer over the past few days I managed to get it to work. The hose isn’t sitting in the little holders and the machine is over a foot from the wall by I can still reach the shelves so I guess this is the best way to go?? More pics

Just read the User Guide that came with the washer to make sure the standpipe height is within the allowable range and that the drain pipe is inserted into it correctly. The LG guide I checked didn't mention a maximum length of drain pipe.

Thanks! I am running a load now and all seems well but I will read the user guide assuming I can locate it in the unpacking chaos. I should read it carefully given that I set it up myself this time. It seems fairly straightforward but given that I haven’t done it before I will double check.

While getting around to unpacking, you could search online on your LG model's number and find an online copy of the manual.

Also, from your photo, it looks like the water hoses are the reason your washer has to be so far from the back wall. You could solve that by swapping in a set of washer water supply hoses with 90° fittings to the back of your washer. These are widely available and not very expensive. It looks to me your water and electrical connections are to the side of the machine. This is the second thread we have seen that. What is with these builders that they would design such a clumsy arrangement? And that dryer vent? Lord have mercy.

The water hoses are fine. If was the drain hose that was an issue. The water hoses would have been an easy fix.

And yes at my last two places the connection was right behind the washer. I wondered if I could move the washer sideways here but it wouldn’t work. No idea what they were thinking. It’s otherwise a very nice place!
