Install flat-screen TV for resale?
Comments (13)Flat-screen TV wouldn't be a draw for me. You're looking at buying something that costs $100Ks, including a $1000 TV isn't going to sway me. It sounds like your mother's place has enough pros to sell itself. The big con to me (as a parent) would be the quality of the school system. Hobokenkitchen, I would take a serious look at school systems to explain the cost difference. If Hopewell has a good system and Ewing does not, chances are it won't be affected. Here in the DC area, we have two counties: one with a top school system in the country adjacent to one that is NOT top school system in the metro area. Houses in the county with the top schools are much more expensive. But families who move in the county with not-so-good school often find themselves sending the children to private schools. Usually, it is more cost effective to buy in the more expensive county and send your children to public schools than to buy a less expensive house and pay for private schools....See MoreFlat-screen TV newbie: will we regret getting this size???
Comments (37)When DD went to off to college last year, she took our LR TV which was something like 17" or so. We rarely watch TV in our house. When I replaced that TV, I did go up in size, but only to a 32" Samsung. Great picture and best size for our LR. LR is 15'x21', and when I first gave in and put a TV in that room, I did not want an entertainment center in my LR. After an exhaustive search for something that was not manufactured expressly as a TV stand, I found a nice black painted piece with a top drawer and 5" double doors under the drawer - use as a spot to hide the DVDs we have. The piece definitely isn't a TV stand per se, but I love it in my LR. When I had to replace the TV last Fall, I specifically chose one that didn't overwhelm my piece. I shopped much more for the quality. Those huge TVs would be a waste in our home. Just last night on the way home from dinner out, we drove around a bit to look at the holiday lights/decorating in our area. Some of the homes had TVs that were so were big, DH & I were commenting about how we could literally watch TV sitting in our car at the curb. The bigger concern would be the quality of the TV, as previous posters have outlined for you, what to look for in a good TV. Personally, I hate when the enormous TV overtakes a room and becomes the focal point. JMHO...See Morewhere to put tv?
Comments (2)This is a very rough concept rendering...nothing is measured. The sectional to face the fireplace and TV at the same time and dividing the two spaces as well. A sofaback table could be used behind the sectional. A sofa and loveseat in an L configuration would also work. 4 club chairs and a round ottoman in the front room....See MoreTV - Where to put it?
Comments (15)How do you envision the room being used? Is a sofa and 2 or 3 chairs the right furniture for how you use the space? You are focusing on how to place a TV in the space, but saying that you seldom watch tv, so why focus on the activity you are not doing instead of focusing on what you are doing. I know an elderly couple that has a very small living room and found they either watched TV or visited with guests, but generally didn't do both at the same time. They placed the TV over the sofa with their two recliners facing the sofa. It is not conventional, but is what worked best for them....See MoreRelated Professionals
