Need Help Choosing a Dining Table and Coffee Table for My Space

Hi everyone! I could really use some advice on picking a dining table and coffee table for my space. I’ll attach a picture of the room layout with measurments.

Any recommendations for the best shape, size, or color that would work well here?

I’d especially appreciate any insights on what would make the space feel cohesive and balanced

should I stay with the white color? or glass?? and which color the coffee table should be?

For starters, the dining table and sofa are in the wrong location.

Place the dining table UNDER THE CHANDELIER THAT IS HUNG FROM THE CEILING.

We really can't see enough of the balance of the space, but the rest of the space should be used for the sectional and TV.

Hi,

For a cohesive and balanced look, I’d suggest a rectangular dining table if you have ample space lengthwise—it’s versatile and can accommodate more seating options, especially for gatherings. If your space is more compact, an oval table can offer a similar seating capacity while softening the look.

For the coffee table, consider a style that complements the dining table in either color or material. A square or round coffee table works well in most living areas, but if you have a sectional or longer sofa, a rectangular coffee table can create a nice flow. For colors, lighter woods can keep the space airy, while darker tones add depth and contrast, especially if the room has neutral walls.

One idea I saw on Houzz was to use a child's table (round) as a coffee table. I thought that was a neat idea. You could get a wooden one at a good price. Not this one, as I think a darker color would be better, but as an example-- you can choose the height and diameter (18" would be good): $158 It has a laminate top, so you would not have to worry about chipping, AFAIK. Another possibility would be to look at MCM coffee tables-- they often have laminate tops as well and I think would look good with your furniture (w/o actually having seen the room).

Ok I'm convinced to a 60" round, hopefully with drop in leafs for extra seating. I spoke with the table maker today and he's on vaca until Saturday so we'll touch base early next week and finalize plan/start the actual build. After all the recommendations I'm thinking too that I'll only purchase 6 of the chairs and use my existing wooden ones for extras. We aren't big entertainers and would mostly have just another couple to host but this will provide a slightly more cost effective solution for when we do entertain more. @maggieq & @cyn427 @jjam - thanks for the chair info! Yikes about the experience with the Hudson chairs, esp for how pricey they are! I've heard such mixed reviews about the overall quality of RH, either wonderful or awful, but I've been coveting the Martine for so long that I'm cautiously willing to give them a try... And hope at worst I could have them brought to a re-upholsterer for future modification over buying fresh set at that time. Thanks again everyone, this has been Hugely helpful! :-)

groveraxle, Thanks for the photoshops. That actually has me back to considering the light grey concrete one the most as it seems to match the overall asthetic better than others I am considering. May not be as thin as what I would prefer but the singlular central base feels like a good compromise.

Agree with Beverly, that is what I was thinking too, dining area in the wrong space. The sofa looks really squashed into the corner that it is in currently. Like Beverly's layout much much better.

What color do you like??? Do you have any art or other accessories you will be using in the room? If not,find a rug you love, or piece of aer (greatbigcanvas.com is wonderful) and go from there.🙂

IMO we need some clue as to the size of the spaces and I do agree the spaces need to be swithched maybe??? I have no idea of the size of the spaces so no way to advise about dining table for sure . I love round dining tables if the space can handle one they are awesome for both small groups or bigger but the size has to be right . For instance if your space is virtually square and 10 x10 you can do a 48" round that can seat 6 and the shape is a nice relief from all the square and rectangular shapes in spaces .We need a to scale floor plan please . Posted here in jpeg format showing every measurement clearly . Post in a comment DO NOT start another post. BTW if going round a pedesatl type base is amuch better choice

The dining room table in the photo already seems to work pretty well. A round dining room table will work best, but the chandelier is currently over the sectional. You might look at flipping the round table to under the chandelier and then placing the sectional on the other side of the space.
