Dirty Santa gift ideas
Comments (38)With both of my parents now gone and all but one child in the group now college age or older, we decided to do a swap starting last year. We had a no gift cards rule (one per immediate family if you were really hurting for ideas) -- otherwise it would be a $20 gift card swap with no fun or immagination at all. In our swap, if your gift is stolen, you can pick any opened or wrapped gift other than the one that was just taken from you. Since this wasn't a work related party, if the game went longer, that was fine with us. More laughs makes a fun time. Ours went well and we are doing the same thing this year. Last years hits included a themed Christmas ornament, a "Lime in the Coconut" apron from Woot, some gifts with paper made from pachyderm poo (they also had chocolate bars, so not sure which was the attraction), a calendar made with family photos -- really, all of them got plenty of action and attention. I think a true white elephant can be fun at work, but dangerous with family unless you are really good at remembering where every gift came from. Even then, the person who gave it to you might have gotten it from someone else in the group and even more folks get offended....See MoreShare your gift idea finds here 2019
Comments (187)robo, for your FIL, what about a t-shirt(s), hat, car sticker or water bottle from your area, his hometown, his service or university, something he can sport in FLA whilst jogging. And yes, I know this is the second time on this thread that I have mentioned this kind of regalia, because I feel your pain, thankfully we don't exchange with the outlaws anymore, but when we did, FIL, ugh, he loves presents, but asks for nothing, then is disappointed when his mind isn't read. Or a road atlas of Florida to look for interesting day trips/explore the area? A NS or CA flag to fly in Florida or a book on the history of their area of Florida. For my daughter, who is a 21 yo college senior and really into cooking, I've picked up a few things at Aldi, all for a song; crock pot, Staub-like pan, Ambiano stand mixer (got damn good review for $69.00 US) and a stock pot. The Aldi "Finds" are always interesting, and some good things interspersed with lots of made in China leggings and toys. So glad I only have dd and dh to buy for! We don't exchange with anyone else, and while some family members feel we are Scrooge personified, most don't, and I don't care anyway, the pursuit of gifts for people we see once every few years is crazy, and I'm much happier donating to our local food bank and no-kill animal shelter in place of those presents....See MoreIdeas for hostess gift
Comments (16)Now I wish I had waited to get something. Went to Lowe's after meeting up with the people doing my bathroom and they had tons of beautful Poinsettas in front. I got myself a Christmas cactus because they remind me of Germany. Had a few in my apartment. I also decided on a flooring for the bedroom....See MorePendant Lights over an island...what's the trend in 2024?
Comments (11)Layered lighting... This might be considered a trend or it might be a new normal. I went without pendants. I wanted to be able to be in the kitchen and see our tv during sport events and to socialize while cooking. But... I have many lights on dimmers and lighting for tasks, under cab, over cab, inside cabinets, recessed and accent lights for glass cabinets. I even have natural lighting because we have a skylight bringing the shine of the moon or the sun filling the space with light. Oh the word the masters use is Biophilic. I find that the best thing I ever did was have lighting inside the cabinets when you open them. It is wonderful to be able to see what you have inside and the switch is motion activated. Why didn't I do this in my closets??? I still can just need to get around to it. Dimmers are a huge thing for me. Sometimes we want mood lighting sometimes we need bright lights for cooking. Layered lighting will help your space function.. Now to think about form. I see these kinds of lights in the renovations around my community.
