1986 Bathroom Needs Freshening Up/Updating
Comments (10)Some inexpensive fixes: Stain the oak something rich and dark, like walnut. I did this in my old bathroom. First I used wood filler and a LOT of sandpaper to get rid of the oak grain. Then I primed, painted a dark chocolate brown, then gel stained walnut, and followed with a couple of coats of poly. I changed out the hardware too. Then I switched the "hag lights" out to a new set. They were on sale for $60 at HD. It was easy to do. Check eBay and craigslist for good deals. My counters were laminate and not in good shape, so I had to do something with them. Your counters seem to be in good shape and look nice IMHO, so no need to spend money there. I switched out the faucets, which isn't difficult as long as you choose a new one with the same footprint. You don't want to have to drill new holes. I found good prices on eBay for new faucets. I got rid of the builder's mirror and switched out for 2 nicer mirrors, also on sale at HD at $140 for the set. I LOVE their clearance rack! Other places to look are Target, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Lowes, etc. I personally am not a fan of the wallpaper especially since you seem to want something different and richer looking. Whether you find a different paper or decide to paint is your starting point. If you want wallpaper, all your colors are going to be based off that. If you paint, the sky is the limit. I'm not really good at suggesting specific colors but others here really are experts at it. My color was based off the tile I chose. I'd get rid of the gold hardware as it dates the room. Comments (5)What about Benjamin Moore Ballet White. I follow this Kylie Interiors and she provides wonderful, very detailed write-ups for lots of different paint brands and colors. Here’s an article she did on Ballet White. Sounds like it may be what you are looking for, a neutral white with little undertones and pairs well with brighter whites. https://www.kylieminteriors.ca/the-best-chameleon-paint-colour-ballet-white-benjamin-moore/...See MoreRelated Professionals
