I think I may have gotten Brugmansia sap in my eye.. what to do?
Comments (14)Thanks to all who responded. Yes, my eye began slowly working it's way back to normal. After the first day, it had gone down to about half the size it was the night before, and was starting to show some response to light. By the second day, I was able to focus my eye again, and by the third, it seemed normal, if not still slightly sensitive to light. Those first 2 days I had to wear sunglasses even in the house because even the sunlight coming in the windows was painful. Definate lesson learned here, I think when working with these plants from now on, I will wear gardening gloves, as a precaution that I wont absently wipe or scratch my eyes, and be sure to wash thoughoughly upon coming back inside. Very scary indeed when you make a living as a freelance photographer and only have one good eye. (I was born with an abnormality of my left eye, looks perfectly normal but is basically just window dressing, can't do more than distinguish color and light with it) I couldn't imagine giving up our brugs, our yard is always vibrant with the colors of them, and on nights like last night, with literally thousands of open blooms, you realise why you do all that feeding and watering. We had a candlelight dinner and a movie on our lanai literally floating on clouds of the most wonderful perfume. Earlier in the evening just after dusk we were returning home with the windows open in the car and could literally smell our place before we arrived in front of the house. Appearantly the weather has just been on the perfect side for them this winter, as the trees are just bending under the weight of as many blossoms as they can possibly hold, with flushes coming one after the other. I haven't slowed my feeding scheduel yet, as it's been pretty much in the lower 80's still all the time, and have had to do quite a bit of pruning, both of side shoots and branches that are getting on the roof and in the gutters. So I should have plenty of cuttings if anybody wants them who didn't get some of the plants I had earlier, they went amazingley fast. Dave...See MoreMy Oven Exploded!
Comments (29)Another here who's been using a self-cleaning oven since the '80s without a problem on several different ranges. I do a lot of roasting (now with convection) & so my oven gets splattered. I really don't like the smell of the hot fat on the oven walls when I'm baking delicate things like cookies/cakes, or even bread so I clean my oven frequently. There's nothing toxic with using the self-clean feature...now using Easy Off...that's another matter...don't breathe if you're using that stuff! I think it was just a defective piece of glass. Stuff happens. I'm so glad nobody was hurt. Talking about stoves & possible dangers seems like a good time though to remind everybody to keep a fire extinguisher in plain sight & handy in the kitchen! Sorry you were scared. It would have scared me too. Glad customer service was easy...always good to hear. /tricia...See MoreI am looking for a rug for my dining room!! Help!!
Comments (16)Since you are willing to paint, I would consider the color that is in the background in your beautiful drapes, as the dark walls make it feel cave like, your lovely wood is not noticed and if the walls are lighter, the windows and view may take more prominence. In regards to a rug...I think an overdyed raspberry colored rug would feel traditional, yet modern and also elegant. Room is not quite what I described but may give you a feel for the look with lighter walls and an overdyed rug....See MoreLooking for panels to pair with my rug
Comments (23)Love the rug, it is obviously old, hang on to it! Please be sure to put the appropriate pad underneath it. Lighter color curtains would work best, and you have a lot of choices. To promote unity and a sense of harmony in the house, you might want to use the same color curtains in the dining room as you use in the living room, just as you probably are using the same color paint in both rooms. If that seems too boring to you, just use whatever light color you like. Do pick a color that will go with all your sets of dishes, and that will look good with food, and that is flattering to you. That still leaves you with a lot of choices that you can pull from the rug that will still go with your wall color. If you plan to add some seat cushions to your chairs, think about what color or what type of print you would do those in (even if you are not ready to do that right away) and then you can base your decision on the curtains on that. You can never go wrong with light off-white curtain, and then whatever you do with a seat cushion print will be fine. And again, you might want to try to unify the colors of the cushion with your living room in some way so the house decor seems unified....See MoreRelated Professionals
