Notice that Dean is headed almost due west. Even if it starts to curve *after* making landfall, it will likely lose a good bit of speed. Also notice that in the graphs (your link) The chosen examples followed a watery path until reaching the states, and none of the paths are similar to Dean's. I like the fact that they have reviews of the different varieties on their website with the reviewer's city and state. It helps to know what grew well (and tasted good) where. Also, I had wondered about the prairie dresses! I wondered if it was a religious thing. They reminded me of the dresses the women at the Warren Jeff compound wore. Interesting to know it's just a gimmick! I ordered quite a few seed packets from them this year because I had heard good things about them and liked the varieties they offered. Since this is my first time ordering from them, I don't know how they will do yet. I agree that the catalogue is beautiful, but heavy on anti-GMO articles.

Some people don't put anything on the cut which is on the existing plant. One of the members here uses a latex caulk to seal it, and another person I know of uses a red limestone paste to seal the cut. It seems like it would be good to seal it against moisture and bug attack. As far as the cutting goes, I usually dust mine with the root tone right after cutting it off. You can wait untill the cutting gets calloused over on the bottom before planting. I believe this will help against fungal attack from the soil.
