Yes, every painted surface in my 1915 bathroom tested positive for lead. Literally the inside of the bathroom doors tested positive and the outside of the doors was negative. Contributed to the cost of my remodel, though I'm in CA where requirements are even more stringent than the EPA. So be careful with the demo. I remodeled my kitchen and only bath together, so we ended up re-piping the entire house. Everything works so much better. Before I was calling the plumber every 6 months for one thing or another. I know you can call the plumber a lot for $31K, just trying to give a silver lining to making the investment.

Dottie - I could not have done this without an educated designer - it's not just about the design choices although I would never have come up with design choices as my brain isn't hardwired in those kinds of visually imaginative ways. I can appreciate things but I don't know how to pull them together and I wouldn't have the ability to figure out where to even start in terms of the sea of vendors. I am good about researching appliances and functions but get lost in the sea of visual possibilities :-) And I can't even imagine dealing with codes and such since Los Angeles is code crazy - I wanted to move some floor electrical outlets up a bit from the floor as I found it difficult to reach them when I had some hip issues so I was thinking about for the future - I was told that if I move a plug, the whole thing has to be rewired back to the panel box. And the darn kitchen sink has to be approved by the UL LOL - who would think a kitchen sink could be dangerous.

Quality Calacatta is harder to obtain. You need to work with good suppliers for this. You can expect variation, as with any natural stone, but we are seeing, and perhaps due to the mining and availability right now, that there are strong variations. As for pits and chips, well that would not be acceptable. We are wrapping up a very long project and one of the baths is all Calacatta. The countertop will also be Calacatta (carefully selected from our trusted supplier and matched to the tile) but it isn't installed yet so no pictures. Here's some in progress photos. Note the third pic where we stacked the trims pieces in front of the field tile. The trims on the right were a good blend but the left was void of veining and not a good match. As a contractor with relationships and "buying power", we were able to shade all our tile in a dry lay out and return the unacceptable for replacements. You will always have SOME variance so you need to tolerate and expect this. But based on our experience we are able to discriminate between "expected" and unacceptable. It's a beautiful stone and dramatic statement if you can get it right. Good luck with your project.

So, we've decided to get the West Slope light, it's OK and it's easy at this point. Now the decision is which size?? I've included a link to the fixture and am also attaching pics of a "mock up" in the room. We have some concerns about too busy/visually crowded for the intermediate size, but have to balance it against enough light, etc. The sink faucets are 39 inches apart (center to center) and we can't move them significantly because we're keeping the vanity (with new countertop). So what do you think about the 3 options? Are there any guidelines for vanity lights? The lights will be at the height of the current fixture. The mirror (just beveled/no frame) will sit under it. It's resting on countertop now.
