R-Fla, here's what I've figured out so far. Jeanninepc's is marble, it's a mosaic on a mesh background, and it's pricey. At the opposite end of the price spectrum, American Olean/Daltile has tile -- not marble -- laid out in a pinwheel pattern (similar to basketweave) for about $6-10 sqft. The local tile store guy explained that usually you don't buy porcelain tile in a basketweave pattern, you buy regular subway tiles and small square dots and then lay it out (but what you save on tile costs, you spend on labor costs). I've seen the basketweave on floors. I've found a local Akdo dealer to check out tomorrow. For hardcore nerds and quilters, the basketweave in Jeanninepc's pic above is laid out on a 4 x 4 grid and tile measurements would be 1 x 1 and 4 x 8; the pinwheel pattern is laid out on a 3 x 3 grid and tile measurements would be 1 x 1 in the center, surrounded by 2 x 4s (it's also a Log Cabin quilting pattern).

That is a very good point about using a less muted color with the white quartz. clt3-the 700 sq feet is actually the dimensions of the bathroom floor, walk in closet floor, and shower. But I could use a cheaper tile for the floor. I have a sample of porcelanosa in white that could work, depending on the shower tile. Pal, pipdog, roarah - the reason I like the fireclay. pj and heath is that their not perfect and have subtle variations in the color. Is dal more perfectly cut? Hi Terri-I love the penny round, but this shower is so huge, I'm worried it'll be too busy. But I am thinking of using it in at least one guest bath. It is so pretty and cute. Mayflowers - Fireclay is sending another foundation white out. Thanks for the heads up on that. I have a ton of samples coming. I am also thinking about their brick tiles on the fireplace.

The pei rating is the strength of the tile. Pei 4/5 are rated for commercial use, it's all I push through my store front for residential use. Forget HD, the people within are about as knowledgeable as a box of rocks.. What area are you planning to use your tile? I'm no designer but I can help point you in the right direction.

I think it's a mistake to try to find a floor tile with some color (but not a lot) and also have a paint that has some color (but not a lot) to it. I would put color in one location or the other, but not both. One option if you're really determined to add color, is to do light blue glass subway tiles in the shower. It's nearly impossible to match a barely there color exactly, and trying to match it and missing often looks worse than just going with a bold contrasting color. So your choices are to go with black, white, or a marble that is guaranteed to have some swirls of the right color. Or to do the glass tile I mentioned since it's so obviously different.
