Exterior paint ideas needed for my crazy house - lots of pics!
Comments (6)Thank you, thank you, everyone. What great suggestions that really help us to narrow our focus - it's a daunting move to completely change a house color, but I've never been a fan of the current color. A few more pics below ... dianalo - I love your suggestion of green as a third color, particularly because it's my favorite color. blfenton - I'm all for the lazy solution. ;) I thought I'd better post here to the wise ones first in case our local paint dealers are not as creative. adriennemb - We are very inspired by nature around here. Here's a photo of our views - excuse the excavator ... DH was installing a septic system for a neighbor. :) Your idea of a deep red would truly work - our neighbor is called Red Rock Valley. From House Exterior teacats - Yes, right now the house definitely blends. Before we changed the roof, it was tan and you couldn't even see a house on Google Earth. We're cautious about competing with nature, maybe don't want to blend as much. The trim color right now is actually dark olive, and I like it very much. We also will be replacing the lights - I like the idea of heavy black lanterns. As for the porch railings, I'd love to replace them with black iron (I can't stand those pickets!), so painting them black in the meantime would really be a good solution. And I also love your idea of the pergola - we are SO open to ideas. abundantblessings - The side storage you see is sort of a "bike port" - no doors, but DH is going to finish the interior so it looks nicer. Ah, the front door challenge. We tell people we don't have a front door - we've had delivery people circle the entire house. Because there IS no door by that yellow rocker. You drive up to the garage, and have to know to walk to the left, around the corner, down the walkway .... there WAS a door by the yellow rocker, but you would walk into a large closet in my kids' rec room. Awkward. So we actually walled it off. Here's a pic of the north front door. It's purdy. ;) From House Exterior...See MoreInitial Home/Garage Lot layout - lake home advice please
Comments (16)I read your kitchen should be on the east for morning light and bedroom on west for evening Usually, especially if on enough mornings you like to sleep in... It's what I am doing. If you are usually early birds, the sun helps get you up, and the kitchen/dining on the west can make sense... and depending on the lay of the land, and lake, you may get to share good sunsets with guests. But there are other factors, too. Views to east and west, And since you are lake front, I think what you want to do is something to accentuate the views of lake, whatever that takes. You are the ones who know if you like to wake up and see the lake first thing, and how you want to "share" the lake to visitors - presumably, you do! With this lot, I do think your architect's thoughts will be paramount, and if he thinks you'd do best without an angled garage, listen. You have a house to the north of you blocking view from the road, so I think the "rules" about front facing garages fall to the side. Ahem as it were....See MoreDrawer pulls driving me crazy... Comments (12)I think I will order a sample of each color. But, my feeling with the light fixture and the pantry door, is that a mix of the two metals will be a good thing. If I use a light metal, then everything is light with the exception of the light fixture. That is probably fine as well with the dark floor, and antique pantry door. Sarah made me think more about the OTHER drawers. Ha! Thank you! So, probably a smaller cup pull. I also like and not sure if the metals will match though. This would like this If I used a smaller size of my original cup pull, it would look like this And then I need to think about the four stack to the right and the three stack near the sink Any words of wisdom?...See MoreNearing the Finish Line...11th Hour TILE Advice Needed! Comments (35)@cupofkindnessgw, Here you go! It is a 3 drawer cabinet. All 3 drawers will be a wiiiiide U shape to account for the sink & related equipment, but I’ll be able to store all of the sink/cleaning accoutrement. The sink is 42” wide, so the top drawer might be pretty useless, but I’m going back & forth with the carpenter about making it operable anyway. He insists it shouldn’t be done. I think it should. I bet I‘ll win. The painting is still in the ‘prep’ stage, as you can see. Three of the four guys that were working on it had to go back to our master bath to hang a large mirror, and my bespoke trapeze towel bars (anchored in the attic) left over from Phase I of the reno (MBed, MBath, MCloset, Powder Room/closet/linen to Laundry/Powder room) that started in October. Good times....See MoreRelated Professionals
