Picked the granite. Need a vision for backsplash.
Comments (15)Just found this thread (delicatus search). I just bought Delicatus Brown this past week. Busy granite!!! So, for my backsplash, I'm *hoping* to use Jeffrey Court Chapter 12 in French Creama (an off whitish/beigy color). I'm thinking of the 6x6's on a diagnol; and behind my sink area having an outline of box with an arched top and filled in with matching 1x1 glass tiles. Around this arched box (again, in the area above the sink) instead of the 6x6's, I want to use the 2x3 subway tiles in a brick pattern. So it will be done all in tone-on-tone but with the tile being the pattern, instead of different colors or borders. Anyway, I am going to wait too until I get the granite installed before purchasing the tile. If your kitchen backsplash is done, hoping you'll post pics. jody...See MoreGranite is in, need backsplash help! Bill?
Comments (53)Hi everyone, Thanks for checking in. I decided to live with my kitchen for a little while. I finally placed my tile order last week. I decided to go with a plain matte finish tile. Too many windows adjacent to the kitchen so I was concerned about the glare bouncing off of the granite and the backsplash. So, that being said, I ordered Ann Sacks elements 3 x 8 (a little variation on the standard subway tile) in the "warm candle white" matte finish. The sales person in the store recommended the antique white grout and the tiles need to be sealed before and after grouting with a product called pourous plus. The downside is the tiles take about 6 - 8 weeks to come in (I swore I would never wait that long) and the frieght charges were very high. I figured I waited this long what's a "few" more weeks. The only concern I do have is cooking without a tile backsplash. I dont fry much but the other night I stir fried and some of the oil splatterd onto the backboard. I scrubbed it down afterwards and hoping when I finally do install the tiles this will not give me a problem later on (i.e. mold, bacteria, who knows?). So my advice to anyone waiting for a backsplash but still cooking is to put a piece of tinfoil behind the stove. I wish I had done this before but didn't think about it until the problem arose. I will start a separate thread on this to give people the heads up. In the meantime, I purchased curtains and am looking into purchasing a light honey colored or natural oak dining room set. I would like to get something that contrasts the cherry cabinet and easily "melds" with the natural oak floors (so, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears). I also found a very nice paint color for the dining area...its called "Mascarpone"...it is part of the Benjamin Moore Pottery Barn collection and it looks very nice. So, I'm excited, everything is coming together little by little. I will definately post photos when it's all completed. In the meantime, I really thank everyone for their suggestions, support and for posting photographs. It helped me arrive at my decisions. All of the backsplashes you folks have posted came out great! Thanks for sharing them. I'll write soon, everyone please do the same. Sincerely, Melanie1121...See MoreBacksplash or no backsplash
Comments (20)So tired of hearing " but that will make it look dated" or "it wouldn't be good for resale" Everything is going to be dated at some point, the kitchen designers, cabinet companies and appliance companies make sure of that. Example: stainless steel appliances were just coming on the market 15 years ago when we gutted our kitchen for a remodel. It was hard for me to find stainless in my area at that time, I live in a small mid western town. So, have you noticed in the past few years appliance companies have been trying to bring out new colors, grayed looking stainless, now ice white etc. they are trying to make people think their stainless appliances are soon going to be "dated". But I have read in several articles that stainless is still the number one choice. I chose a cinnamon stained cherry wood for our new build. I thought about white because that is the trend right now, but I reasoned cherry cabinets will always be in style while the white trend Has just a few more years. I won't be a slave to trends. Just my opinion....See MoreColor Help for Kitchen: Birch+Pine+Maple+Black Granite+Backsplash!
Comments (10)While I think a beige could look really good, I think that it might not be the best choice for selling the house. My impression (from the real estate photos I've seen in my area) is that houses are still being painted gray in preparation for sale. (I know, people on this site keep saying gray is on its way out, and it may be, but I that's because it is at, or only a wee bit past, its mass market peak). But you're obviously having trouble finding a gray/greige, so what about white (which seems to be on an upswing) or off-white? BM Alabaster BM Navajo White (this is definitely a warmer off white)...See MoreRelated Professionals
