Camellia sinensis (for tea) source on West Coast?
Comments (13)As for hardiness, I have had a Camellia sinensis planted by a west-facing concrete porch for several years with no problem. I bought it from Burnt Ridge nursery in Onalaska WA. Sometimes their plants are small but the first one below says it is a gallon. They sell inexpensive seedling plants in a lot of fruit and nut trees. I'm still waiting for fruit on some small plants I bought from them after several years. Maybe some day... Nice people, family business. http://landru.myhome.net/burntridge/ornament.html TEA BREEZE - A dark green leafed selection. Widely cultivated for tea. Hardy to zone 7. Grown in gallon pots, about 3 ft. tall. Multi branched $15.00 ea. BLUSHING MAIDEN - A pink flowered selection, otherwise similar to Tea Breeze. Grown in gallon pot, about 12-18" tall. Multi branched $15.00 ea....See MorePomegranate trees in central west coast florida
Comments (10)This question has been asked before - my mom lives in Treasure Island, on the waterfront & has a pomegranate shrub that my dad planted over 20 years ago - it seems to do fine w/ little extra care, & if it were properly cultivated, I imagine it doing great. She gets @ least 6-8 large fruits every year from the remaining plant (there were originally 2). Sorry but I've no idea what variety; flowers are the classic red/orange & fruits get very large & are pretty sweet. I believe he got them from Park Seed, if that's any help. Somebody else nearby is growing pomegranate as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Punica granatum...See MoreKT Dinner Tonight - West Coast Florida Gathering (pic)
Comments (20)Linda..yes-he had vascular surgery in early November...they couldn't stent it-they had to clean out his artery. Pretty painful for some time-the nerves in his foot have caused him pain but it's nearly gone now. We love to dance & I think it's been helpng him by dancing-vs. babying his foot. Thanks for asking! I will definitely be on the lookout for new & unusual foods this year & will report back. I don't think that I will ever get used to seeing the gigantic turkey legs they sell at Fair time here!! I mean-folks walk around carrying one of these legs-almost as big as my forearm!!! LOL!.Must be a southern item we didn't see much of in northeast PA....See MoreEast Coast vs West Coast
Comments (19)I have noticed the differences between East and West. Not sure how the mid-west fits in, but probably more Eastern? Our country was mainly settled in the East, and then people migrated West. There are many more historical minded people in the East. California has a lot of Spanish influence, and many of those homes have a lot of color in various rooms. One such home had a roof fire a while back, and driving by, I was amazed at the various colors inside that house! Pink, mint, aqua, orange, lavender....wow! There are many new developments here, and for many years those homes come in one color on all walls. Maybe people think "new" should be neutral, so they continue with the trend. If they buy "old," they tend to paint all the walls a neutral color to update it. Our entire home is painted a soft neutral beige with white wood accents except for one room. The ceiling is painted dark navy blue and the walls a deep brown. That room is where we go to watch TV and gather with friends. We call it our "Pub." There are differences between Northern and Southern California too. San Francisco has a lot of color. Maybe because of the fog? Whoever said weather has an influence is probably right....See MoreRelated Professionals
