Anyone ordering from Sweet Hilltop Farm

With Palatine shutting down the mail order rose end of their business, I have been looking for any other vendors offering bare root roses grafted on multiflora. I was pretty excited to come across Sweet Hilltop Farm.

I am wondering if any of you have any experience ordering from them.

They have some David Austin’s, Jalberts Jalbert, Kordes, and Delbard roses oh… they also offer Chandos Beauty.

Their pre-orders start on Saturday.

Oh, you wicked enablers! I did order off the Labor Day sale from the current inventory and didn't see all the upcoming pre-order sales. Now I'm drooling over all those amazing Jalbert roses and will probably make another order. It's wonderful to see these incredible roses getting wider sales since every Jalbert rose I've grown so far (around 8) has been hardy, healthy, gorgeous, and a prolific bloomer. Now I'll be checking out the sales once they start Saturday.

And you're not a bit ashamed of yourselves for "making" me order more roses, are you? :)

Apparently the orders are open now so I decided to be a guinea pig and order from them. They have apparently been around a while and they're in my region of the country, so it's a potentially good fit. I got a quick confirmation of my order and the bareroot shipping is free after $130. The roses were about $34 each which is OK for bareroots.

Thanks for posting this! I'm also eager for alternatives to Regan and Palatine as we lament their losses of vendors.

I think 'your' summary of Homesteads ordering policies is a bit harsh. It's not like it's a hidden small print, it's as large as anything else under 'how to order' and very up front. Under "Substitutions" it states "We always comply with your written instructions. We substitute only when necessary and when no written instructions to the contrary have been given. The substitute value is always equal to or greater than the item ordered". Seems very reasonable, pretty standard and very up front. Under "Bonuses" it states "We ship nice daylily bonus plants for daylily orders over $30.00. Bonus plants will be chosen from your substitution list included with your order when feasible. Bonus is ultimately growers choice but suggestions are appreciated". Once again, very up front and direct. Send a list, they'll see what they can do. All that said, to answer your question, no I have never mail ordered from Homestead but have visited their daylily farm several times. I like to see my daylilies up close. I have purchased from them. I have had no problems. The owners are sweethearts.

I grow CLASSIC EGE and have had it for years. In fact I have a mini row of it. Lovely daylily that thrives and puts out lots of blooms in my garden. I love it. Don't have the others but I did have TRANQUIL WATERS at one time. It left here as mine never did have the coloring that I liked, too pale I thought.

I went over this morning and was delighted with all the choices and the prices. Of course, I didn't take advantage of the coupon on the hanging baskets because we chose something else. I was amazed that the size of the baskets were as cheap as they were. I will be going back next month. I bought that variegated begonia basket for myself and several pots of herbs and I got the free tuberous begonia!

I ordered a rose from them last season, and the quality was very good. The owner, Jennifer, is very kind and communicative. I believe they only started shipping roses last season, but they are a legit small business.

@Markay MD-Zone 7B The roses on the Labor Day Sale page show as available. I don't know if the 30% Labor Day discount still works, I didn't try it. However, the main rose page shows everything "sold out". I assume Cynthia ordered from the sale page..

I wasn't able to use the 30% off Labor Day sale, but I just googled Sweet Hilltop Farm and the main order page came up. The prices are reasonable enough that I didn't need the sale, Labor Day being quite some time ago.

@nippstress - zone 5 Nebraska That's weird, Cynthia. I also googled SHF to get to the website, but for me (and Markay, evidently) the main order page shows every rose "sold out" (and nothing clickable, no way to place in the cart). The only place that roses were available and order-able was on the Labor Day Sale page (which still has the Labor Day coupon code on it). I wonder what the difference is?

I think this is the new collection that they are releasing this Saturday. I happened to be in touch with Sweet Hilltop Farm and they said it's going on sale at 11:00 a.m. CT this Saturday.

I ordered 4 roses I’ve been wanting to try and I’m really happy to get them grafted on multiflora. I ordered Cinderella Fairy tale, Fiji, Arctic Blue, and La Perla. I was tempted to get Eustacia Vye, but i stuck to my decision not to add anymore Davd Austin roses. They don’t do that well in my no spray garden.

Edit : I received a very prompt reply that my bare root was coming from Canada and would be coming in march :) I’m very happy with the fast customer service! i wasnt expecting a reply on a sunday :)

@Markay MD-Zone 7B - thanks for letting us know about this nursery. I’m happy that someone else will be offering multiflora grafted roses. I placed an order earlier this month and Jennifer quickly replied when I had a question.
