Comments (15)Debra, I have no idea how to connect otherwise so please reach me at gmail. It will be oerickson. I say you still have too much grass 😆 Seriously love how you detailing your beds. Old_dirt, hubby bought me inexpensive watch that calculates my steps, I walk 5-6 miles daily in my garden/ house alone ...sheesh. I hear you on taking a break. Gary, you were right, water has subsided significantly. Still there but at least garden beds are clearing. Sandy, I am looking for salvias too, gotta find Lowes to see any sales. Otherwise I will need to get some seeds and grow a batch. My spring look needs an improvement. Are daylilies worth growing? How long that bloom lasts? Nicholworth, I forgot about Lycoris, I think I am behind by at least 2 weeks from you....See MoreWhat are you doing Monday 72124 or 72224
Comments (7)Hahaha paula, when your hostas get too big, you ship them to me. 😁 The field guide joke really got me! I have read about the seed vault before…..interesting concept, but who will be around if there’s a catastrophic event?? Ok, onto gardening…..today it’s 84 F and hazy. It’s abit of a relief from the sunny hot weather we’ve been having. And now it’s been dry for the last week. Things in the back yard which is mostly sunny are looking good with the exception of some burn on hostas. My perennials that I planted last year are in full swing and looking good. My hostas on the side yards are looking pretty good. I seems that the earwigs weren’t in those areas as much as the front. I am really disappointed and overwhelmed with what needs to be done in the front. Almost every hosta has significant earwig damage and I have a number that look like they’re on their last leg……small, brown leaves……they have too be dug up, roots removed and potted or replanted. I’m already worried about the overwintering process. Do you tip them on their side like when they’re outside or leave them upright? Do you give any hydration to them? Is an unheated garage in SE Wisconsin going to be cold enough? Yikes! I probably should do my own post about that, but that’s what’s on my mind…… Many hostas are in bloom for me now, Ambrosia, Blazing Saddles, Wide Brim, Fragrant Blue, So Sweet, Sum & Substance, Nigrescens and others. These are the late bloomers. My foot is feeling fine, but believe it or not, the ankle still is swollen. Last Saturday I went on a garden tour with a friend and really enjoyed that . Well that’s my weekly update. debra...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday 72924
Comments (11)The heat and humidity has been bad this week. I can’t be out in the back yard until maybe 4 when most of the yard is in shade. It’s just too bloody hot! 🥵 Many hostas are looking bad….bug damage, heat stress yellow leaves, nematodes on one, etc. My perennials are looking good, but most of my hostas in the front look pretty sad. I have had to dig up several shrinking or underperforming hostas and plant elsewhere or pot them up to see if they recover a bit before frost arrives. I cannot believe the amount of tree roots that I find surrounding the hostas when I dig them up! They surround the hosta roots like an invasive netting….. 😝😝 I have a bunch that need digging up. It’s a lot of work. I have two arborvitae trees on the front corners of my house and those roots seem to be problematic as well. I dislike arborvitae and would like to take them out…..not sure what I would replace them with…. something without a lot of roots…..is there a bush or tree like that??? 😂😂😂 Bathroom still is not complete…..waiting for the vanity, wall cabinet and sink to be installed still. Our contractor is a personal friend and his son has been very sick and in the hospital for a week, so I know that’s the main reason why. The shower is lovely and working great. Will do pics when it’s all done….maybe by Christmas, 😂😂😂 Lindalana, what does copper do for the plants? Sorry the bunnies got your streakers! I have not been into the Olympics this summer….. I think I like the winter games better and I am just too busy in the garden in the summer. debra...See MoreWhat are you doing Monday or Tuesday 82724
Comments (10)Yes, we all are complaining about our gardens and the weather……☺️ I think every August is like this. Hostas are in decline, bug damage has taken its toll, lack of rain and lack of energy! Well that’s the garden cycle it seems, for hostas anyway. My Liberty looked so burned in the sun bed that I had Bert move it for me out front where it will get sun and shade. I may have to move others or protect them with nearby taller plants. It seems my sun bed is a lot of sun. The only hostas that aren’t fried are El Niño, High Society, Nigrescens, Sting and Snow Mouse. Hanky Panky doesn’t look too bad. Gabriel’s Wing needs a new location because the small butterfly bush is just covering it up. Lots of work, and no motivation. Still living without a main bathroom vanity, cabinet and sink……long story but the guy making the vanity for us has suffered three deaths in his close family in rather quick succession and we have no idea what’s going on at this point. Still waiting to post when everything is done.✔️ debra...See MoreRelated Professionals
