Some of our colleagues are still focused on telling clients to leave things alone, but we figure if they are on this forum they want change: so let's give it to them! First of all, agree with poster above re TV above fireplace, especially since you have a lot of light coming from the side windows. Install a nice big piece of art. (no large clocks!) Secondly, you would want to balance the design using the same features right to left, for example, go with the same shelves on right and add books and other decor items of . If you want to do TV on right or left, OK., but take off cabinet doors regardless. Then, let's address light fixture: go with a lower pendant to hit the wall midway, with large art behind it, plus tall vases on mantel will add layers/depth. Hope this helps. Best luck!

I really love the look of wood and I would keep as much of the wood as possible. Your house has lots of wood, and as best I can tell from the pictures, the woods mostly agree with each other. Your fireplace wall is mostly overall a light warm pink. Your other woods look like they have a warm tone as well. Even your dark doors have a warm brown with orange highlights. Have you thought about going warmer with the color for your walls? The wall and ceiling colors need to accent the wood beams, wood flooring, wood railings as well as the wood doors. As much as I like the modern gray/white look, I don't think grays do as much for wood as other colors. Why be tied to white trim? If you find a warm color you like, there are other colors that the paint company suggests for trim and ceiling that accent the wall color, which in turn would accent your wood. In one of our homes we did the unthinkable by experts. We stained our poplar wood trim and wood doors with a dark antique stain. It turned out very well. The wood looked antique and we received lots of compliments. Disclaimer: I'm not expert, I just know what I like.

Love the hide the TV art piece idea. And the chunky mantle would be wonderful. The sectional is about 4 feet away from slider. The room isn’t very wide. There is a step down into the living area from dining and main hall so if swapped sectional it would close off access to the room. Off of main hall. I am attaching other photos. There is a weird sink cabinet area in living (house was built in the 80s). I need to figure that out eventually. The end table is too big by the fireplace. I totally agree. We do need a small table there since it has our modem, cable box, security system and cordless phone on it and they can’t be moved due to wiring. As far as the pendant light goes. That was my original thought but instead choice a more practical idea with very large ceiling fan. Although the pendant light would look better design wise. This space had popcorn ceilings and no recessed lights And was bright yellow when we bought it. The kitchen and dining had track lighting. So we made quite a few changes but most of the changes went to our bathrooms.

I bet it could look really nice if you painted the whole thing white. Vents would be blended in. So many vents ! Perhaps have it removed and install an electric one.
