is there a way to tell what caulk type is in shower?
Comments (2)Tracey, I can tell by looking at it, but I can't tell YOU how to tell. I haven't been ignoring you-- I've been trying to come up with a way to explain it to you, and so far, i don't really know how to tell you. Hopefully, someone else will be of a little more help. Comments (1)The more silicone and the less latex in the caulk, the more resistant the caulk. So a 100% silicone can often give you the best results. Just be aware that 100% silicone can be more difficult to work with than 100% latex. That's why a lot of folk prefer a hybrid of siliconized-latex. It offers good protection and it's easy to tool....See MoreBest Mildew Resistant Caulk for shower/toilet
Comments (1)I can't answer the best caulk question, but I do know that if you paint straight bleach on your calk, the mildew will die instantly. Also, mildew forms in damp, warm places. Is there a fan in there? A window you can open? This post was edited by desertdance on Tue, May 7, 13 at 12:25...See MoreGrout vs caulk in shower
Comments (15)Thanks, Bill. I talked to my contractor this morning and he said: 1. He used silicone at the corners of the sheet rock. He also said the reason he doesn't like to use caulk at the corners is that even though it is supposed to be the same color as the grout, it really isn't, plus the caulk will crack if the building moves just like grout cracks. I asked him about grout behind the caulk and he said he recommends keeping the bathroom dry by using a squeegie/towel where needed, particularly along the top of the tub. The grout looks so nice I guess I'll wait to see if it cracks. It probably will as the roof needs more work and I guess I'll caulk at that time. 2 and 3. There isn't grout at the tub line. It just looks like it as the grout is the same color as the empty space. (That's what I get for looking at it at night.) 4. OK 5. Tub reglazing was put last on the schedule so that it wouldn't get damaged during the other stages. I am going to have them cover all of the walls up to the tile line, and the floor, with plastic....See MoreRelated Professionals
