Trying to figure out what type of seating I can add to this room with a large window on one side.

Almost anything but that TV has to come way down just barely above the cabinet for proper viewing . All the art has to come down too and IMO you hang art after you have placed the furniture not now.I think strat with the TV watching piece like a sofa then add 2 chairs is this just one space or does it need more than one use .Please draw a to scale floor plan showing the windows doorway and every measurement clearly marked and posted here in jpeg format in a comment DO NOT start another post You will be asked things like how many seats do you need . Do you need display for some collections for instance , That wall looks huge for such a small TV I live Ikea besta for TV storage and a bit of display so maybe check that out too.You might even be able to add an electric FP too

Please draw and measure the room. Every wall, the windows, the opening ....feet and inches.

How many do you need to sit?

Yes the tv is too high, and ditto the art.

By controlling where the sitter is looking, you define the space. Put a sofa parallel to the TV wall, facing the TV, with a sofa table or low bookcase backed up to it to define the TV area. Define the fireplace chat area with a rug. A pair of loveseats, or a loveseat and two chairs, one slightly angled with its back to the doors and the other (or pair of chairs) matching with a nice couple of chairside tables would define the fireplace part. People sitting here should be facing each other, at a comfortable conversation distance. There will be the blank corners outside the fireplace conversation area. Good for a potted plant, maybe a small writing table in front of a window looking out ... a solitary activity. Maybe a bookcase And If you are having a big get-tpgether, just turn the sofa around so it's part of the conversation area.

I don’t know how to take your plan and add furniture to it 🙃... so I will just explain how I would place your sectional. I would float the sectional where the back of one side of sectional is to dining room and the back of other side, is to the kitchen. That way your window and fireplace are the view from sitting on sofa. I think this would be an ideal set up for your space. You could still add a chair in the corner between window and FP, or place an additional chair directly in front of window, without obstructing a lot of your light. It’s a great open floor plan, congratulations on your new home.

Party, Party, Party! Does anyone remember the game Twister? It's difficult for me to imagine myself contorting myself that way, but I did. Does more then one have a guest sleep over at a time? Study groups? (I know, COVID.) But pre-COVID? Do you think they will stay home for college? If so, they will have study groups, parties, watch the game, etc. Better that is all done in your house than elsewhere when goodness knows what goes on with no adults around. I would have a mini-kitchen, maybe a microwave, half fridge with freezer, combination toaster-oven with air-fryer with lots of counter space, a large table with several chairs they can play games at or study around. Maybe skip the beds, don't make it easy for them! If they really have some pals over, you can purchase air mattresses and an inflater, they are young, that is OK for them. You might want to build some closets for games if you don't have enough storage space. I would put a TV down there, make sure it is wired appropriately for phone, TV, internet, wifi and all that stuff. I would put two sofas, a couple of ottomans.

Wow all great questions!!!! Thank you!!! Relieve Winery in Mexico is what I like because it is simple and empty and displays the different materials well (metal, concrete, rocks, glass). Thats my second living room and I haven't even designated what it is to our family....we just use it as a storage room with the miscellaneous stuff there rn. I would like to make it into a room we love to be in. It faces the East and I don't have window covering and don't really want any....but if you think I need some I will reconsider.

I see blue out of the windows. That could be a view. To orient towards that you can flip the tv to the opposite wall and do your seating sofa with chaise or sectional with big ottomans to see tv and blue.

Thanks all. Yeah this used to be a kids room so the movie posters and the TV definitely need to come down. Was hoping to keep the TV on the same wall but just wondering on sofa locations. Single sofa or two ?

Rooms are feet and inches.

Draw the space, take a big tape measure and measure the walls, windows, opening all of it.

Every other method is a big huge guess. NO designer would begin without a plan, without an idea of what and what size of anything.....feet and inches matter.: )

You upload that drawing as a jpeg, legible, feet and inches noted, and PRESTO , help comes back to you. Tv locale change or not.

You have a few different seating options. You could do a sofa and two chairs near the window, or a sectional and a chair. Here is one of the layouts you can do:

Not to scale does not really work unless we now have to draw a to scale piece .I think you can handle the pieces above but often I find what might work on paper does not in realife it is why I never work from blueprints either . That TV cabinet is IMO way too small and in no way suits the color scehme which to me says contemporary . If you want to keep the TV on that wall then what I posted earlier would be a great way to handle that large wall. I would use some boxes to figure out how the room flows with the furniture shown above it would allow a lot of seating and since we have no idea how many seats you need so only guessing. I love the space so would want to do it justice with a bit more info from you .

You could look at doing a sofa facing the TV. Then add two chairs either by the windows, or on the other side of the sofa. See this visual, from a recent design of ours, for more ideas:
