I couldn't help but notice that your furniture is angular, modern and monochromatic except for that bright blue chair.. I think it would make it more difficult to choose a rug with that piece in place, and the style seems to fight with the rest of the furniture. I also like aktillery's choice of rug best.

I hear you. I have the same problem. Neutral colors. It's hard when color is not your thing! Are there any colors you don't like? Is this rug below too modern for you? It's still neutral, but has some character! Here's a few others.... just going through my rug board throwing ideas out! I like the ones you linked too, but afraid they will just blend too much like your current one. This one is pretty though.. Could work!

This is a 7' x 7' area rug. Another trick is to replace your window treatments and rod. Install a new rod, higher and wall to wall. Purchase an extra wide panel and stack it back over the wall right side of window. It will make the room look wider.
