hello everyone, I have seven italian cypresses six to seven ft. apart, I planted them six years ago one suddenly died last year and I replaced it with one the same size as the rest, now they're aprox. 8 to 9 ft. tall. they were all nice and green during and after winter time, now I noticed that two are turning brownish and dry but at the same time there's tiny little green branches popping out from the trunk, they look bad, green in some parts and really dry in others. I don't water these trees with dripping lines, they get the water from the sprinkle system 5 mins. in the morning and 5mins. in the evening, the weird thing is that last year it happened exactly the same thing but only with one of these two during summer time last year and slowly turning green when we were getting close to fall-winter, I really don't have a clue if I'm watering to much or not. and why the other trees look green from the outside and when I stick my hands through the branches they look dryish from the inside, it's getting hard for me to understand these trees. I had a dream long time ago that I had these 7 or 8 italian cypresses lined up tall and green, it would be so sad that now that they're 8 to 9 ft. tall I'll have to chop them down because I let them die. please HELP !!! oh !! and by the way last year I started using this liquid food from Miracle Grow every 2 weeks and it seems it was working good now I started to use it again two weeks ago, should I keep using it, should I stop using it, what kind of food or fertilizer is good for these trees ? thx. The tree(s) may develop root problems and like someone told you they can potentially fall over or not have any foliage on that side or have a poor appearance. The trees will probably look fine for a few years until that mesh becomes a problem. Italian cypress and related species are drought tolerant but you can't expect them to be drought tolerant without a well developed root system. There may be natural obstacles like rocks but this isn't a natural obstacle and don't bet on it biodegrading in the soil. By the time that happens, we'll all be long gone. I'm not surprised the nurseries tell you the trees will be fine because they're trying to sell you the trees and will say whatever it takes. The people onthe internet like myself really don't know what you're trying to do because we can't see the mesh or really understand what you're talking about. But what I can say with certainty is nature doesn't always find a way.

need two peeps for this ... tie a loop near the bottom ... with twine .. see link.. it will rot off.. in case you forget for 5 years.. lol .. and as your helper sorta holds up the branches.. just start wrapping them in a candy cane format .. a foot or so apart ... until up near the top ... no need to be real tight.. just enough to support the droopers .. what you are doing.. is using the inherent bulk of the whole.. to support the branches that are shipping/transplant stressed ... until such time.. as the roots can pump enough water.. to make it all stand up on its own ... its the same thing we peeps in snow areas do when we tie up arbs to protect from wet heavy snow ... i bet a nickle.. they were tied up this way for shipping .... ken Here is a link that might be useful: most of us call that near a half mile ... for $20

I've asked several arborist as well as UH via Urban Garden help line. Thats the woman arborist who said all of her trees died from the beetle roaches. They all pretty much said to keep area free of debris. Some of them suggested spraying the tree with water to get the bugs off but seriously the trees are 35-40 feet tall so using any type of spray would only go up 5-6 feet. No one can give me good suggestions to rid the trees of these buggers. I've used Spectracide on the lawn and under the trees because the bugs have been coming into the house for almost a year now and driving us crazy! It seems to have worked since we're seeing less bugs but more than likely most all of our trees will die eventually. Oh well.
