million bells are usually pretty easy to grow. deciphering why they are wilting could be root rot or a fungus. 1 is treatable where the other is not. Some fungus stop the roots from absorbing nutrients therfor the upper part wilts. wait until the soil is fairly dr. Normally Id say,, dry it out until you see a slight wilt, but that here lies the problem.!? Add a water soluable fungicide with weak solution of 10-52-10. I do it twice. then use 20-10-20. They don't like a lot of phosphorus. One should just use straight water no fertilizer every 3rd or 4th watering. this washes out the buildup of salts from roots. Once a month I mix a Tblsp Epsom salts and calcium to gallon water . this gives the top a boost. greens it up, helps flowering. Ive lost 1 basket of million bells to a fungus and 1 to rain. For 10 years I plant yearly approx. 14 ,, 16"- 24" size Baskets +4 barrels. Noone excepts pennies any more , Hope my 2 cents helps someone here in this forum.

Hi guys, very new to Brugs!!! I have a plant in a container and it has been doing great!!! Until a few days ago!! It started wilting and I saw greyish spots on the leaves?? I looked under the leaves and it looks like little white eggs under some of the leaves!!! I sprayed it with a spray that I have for my roses!! It also is beginning to get really hot here in central Louisiana and I am watering once a day but still getting wilt so yesterday I put an umbrella up to shade it some....it is on my porch that gets full sun until around 3 pm and shade the rest of the day!! Well I know this is not a normal post I continue to ramble!!! But does anyone have any suggestions to help???

Too many times, the symptoms of too-little-water and too-much-water are very similar.... I'm wondering if perhaps you haven't given it enough water: the top few inches are okay, but the lower part of the pot isn't. Some soil-less mixes contain a lot of peat. Peat can hold a lot of water -- but when already dry, peat hates to absorb moisture. If the yellowing began before the rain stopped, it might be that the first yellowing was caused by too much moisture, and the later yellowing was from too little moisture. Or perhaps the peat wasn't thoroughly damp when you potted it, and even the rainfall didn't remedy that situation. So I'd advise giving the plant the opportunity to absorb as much water as possible. The question is how best to accomplish that, because if you keep watering, the water may just run through empty spaces in the pot (where the dry peat has shrunken away from the pot), and do very little to moisten the mix. If it weren't a heavy pot, you could put it in a larger container (or even a large plastic bag) and wait until plenty of water was absorbed. Maybe someone else can suggest a better method to try. If you don't already have mulch, add some at the top of the pot to cut down on soil moisture evaporation. And water more and more often. One possible disadvantage of trying this is that you may lose some fruit to splitting.

"What is your soil like?" When I first built the garden in spring I added about 1/2 top soil (the "quality" stuff from Lowe's in the yellow bag; it is a very rich, dark soil) and 1/2 bagged compost, plus 1 bale of peat moss. I used a 'claw' cultivator to mix it all together. I was skeptical over how good a job I'd done, so when I planted this tomato plant I removed a 2x size hole and used potting soil instead. When I later removed the other 2 tomato plants and 2 cucumber plants I planted in spring I removed about 1/2 the soil and used a gas-powered tiller to till up the bottom half and added 1/2 top soil and 1/2 "garden soil" (from Miracle-Gro) and tilled it all in. I used some store-bought insecticidal soap this time because I wanted to be sure it would work. I'd previously used some homemade soap (using Dr. Bonner's 18-in-one Hemp Lavender Pure-Castile Soap) to try and fight the aphids but I wasn't sure if it really did much since they just kept coming back after I'd spray anyways. I soaked the plant head-to-toe yesterday evening (around 6:30pm) and came back around 9am and jetted it down to wash it off before the heat of the sun, but I'm still not sure if it'll help much. I just don't have much else to help this thing except to pull it out and give up on growing tomatoes (for their sake, mostly).
