Problem with wilting bamboo

last modified: 6 months ago

I have a large metal pot of bamboo growing (I believe Phyllostachys but not 100% on the type), and the pot is roughly 2 feet tall by 2 feet wide.

I cut the roots of one of the stems and tried to transplant it (though I only managed to get a few roots), but the one that I transplanted died (or at least the leaves are wilting I think it will die). However, oddly enough most of the plants in the big pot are almost dead too.

One thing when I did is when I took out the stem I removed the rocks on the top of the pot, perhaps they were serving some purpose (to keep in moisture?)

Anyway, if anyone has any idea why the larger pot is wilting just from cutting out a small piece, please let me know.

(Also, I should note that in Oregon now we have been having very hot weather, around 90-100 degrees some days. However I have another identical pot of the same size and the bamboo in it is healthy.)
