Comments (3)First, I'm very sorry for your experience - not a great introduction to working with a landscape professional :-( I assume you do not have the plans? Or even any preliminary sketches? It is very possible to develop a cottage style garden or at least an informal, naturalistic planting in a fair amount of shade. I am not sure why folks vere away from shade gardening as such a design challenge - it's ony a matter of becoming familiar with plants that prefer those conditions and there are lots. bboy points you in the right direction - include some smallish understory trees and shrubs and fill in with woodland plants and shade or part shade lovers - hostas, astilbe, brunnera, ferns, hellebores, columbine, bleeding heart....the list goes on! In sunnier areas, you can include more sun tolerant plantings typical to a cottage garden, including peonies, iris, delphiniums, etc. Try your local library for a book, "The Complete Shade Garden" by George Schenck. Should provide some inspiration as well as introduce you to a long list of shade tolerant plants. It's a bit of closing the barn door after the horse has escaped now, but should you embark on a professional landscaping adventure again, be sure to protect yourself as best you can by insisting on a contract with the professional that outlines their participation in detail as well as your responsibilities and never pay more than a modest deposit towards work that has not been completed. Personally, I'd have to think a designer was up to no good from the outset if they asked for $10 grand before any plans were completed and delivered and to "reserve" an installation crew and plants for spring. An ethical professional just doesn't work that way....See Moredoes anyone have plan ideas w/ 2-mother in law suites
Comments (117)CEM TOSA, I appreciate your experience and knowledge. I’m sure your home will be beautiful. I will do the best I can with mine. We are not rushed at this time to build. If we proceed with building now, I do realize the prices/economy will not allow the size or everything I love. But to dream and plan is the most enjoyable thing to me. We will see in a year or two what will be then....See Morekitchen floor plan advise for whole house reno
Comments (3)Nice kitchen plan. Will there be a table in the space to the left of the slider? You could make the pantry a step-in: Maybe move the kitchen another foot into the laundry/MR to put a little more space between the island and table (right). NKBA guidelines New to Kitchens? Comments (13)You need a narchitect or at least a really good interior designer . Draftsmen draw what you tell them to draw not the same as having a good designer tell them what to draw . I see notpoint in this series of doors if this is private floor why ?I sure would not want to walk through a bathroom to ge tot a study . Have you actully gone and tested getting in and out of a free standing tub ? I would suggest you do thta they are a PITA to get in and out of and honestly huge bathrooms to mre are a waste of space not to mention cleaning for not better function . Spce for the sake of some weird idea of luxury is wrong. To have to keave the bedroom to access the bathroom in this type of idea makes no sense . You need real pro help for sure. I hate toilet rooms they make no sense no one should be using the toilet when some one esle is in the bathroom .@ separate vanities with hardly any counter ? Back to the drawing board with a good design....See MoreRelated Professionals
