Controlling Osage Orange growth is a contradiction of terms. It's simply too hard to do. Cutting thru the wood will quickly wear down the chain on your chainsaw & even produce sparks. When I was growing up, there were several rows of these on vacant lots nearby & made perfect "forts" underneath. The fruit was the ammunition. New thornless/fruitless selections of OO like 'White shield' (I have 2) grow much more upright & taller than the original shelter-belt form & make sturdy, long-lived lawn or street trees.

Hi have no answer for that one but I do have another question about Brookshire Tx I have heard that somewhere in Brookshire is a nursery ran by handicap people and that they are very reasonable and their plants are great also something about a play that they put on every year during lent? and one during Christmas do you know anything about this? I was also thinking that if this nursery is there maybe they also sell the soil you are looking for and they might deliver for a cheaper price? I do not know the name of the nursery but if you find out will you let me know? Thanks Marcie

Aka maclura Pomifera, bois d'arc, hedge apple tree? Found some nurseries in OK and WY, but struck out here. There's several thornless/fruitless varieties, and it's a TX native, so I've been pretty disappointed no nurseries carrying it. Sounds like a perfect big tree...light shade, hardwood, fast-growing, drought tolerant. May have to give up and go with a thornless honey locust... :-(

I used to live there and had a house full of scorpions.. I have since moved :) I'm a live and let live person too, but there were so many that we also wound up using chemicals because there was no other way and I'm allergic to their stings. We have humane (non kill) mouse traps, but scorpions aren't heavy enough to trigger them. I'll share what we did.... The best things we did were to pay a team of great exterminators to examine the house and seal up all the holes. That made a noticeable difference. Make sure the vents have mesh in front of them etc. It helped bring the numbers down. They advised us the most effective thing we could do was to get rid of their food source.. i.e., make sure you don't have spiders etc. They won't cross a line of borax, so I had that around the house for a while, but the house was too big to make that a long term solution. We also trimmed the trees back so nothing was touching the house so they didn't get on the roof. And, we eventually rescued a few cats and it turns out our cats had an instinctive aversion to them and they would kill any they saw (unlike most other insects). So even though we still had them, they were dead by the time we found them. If you don't have many and want to humanely go after them, get a blacklight and a bug buster (humane bug vacuum) and go around in the middle of the night and catch them. I think you will always have some but you can control the numbers.
