Just clarified my question. Not looking for the actual paintings. Just want some relatively inexpensive wall art that will make the apartment look modern and the walls are not bare.

I didn't see the other post so I don't know if these sources have been suggested - Minted and Desenio. I've ordered wrapped canvas prints from Desenio and liked them. Their frames, though, for regular paper prints are not good quality.

DIY, eBay, Etsy, toddler art. Those are my go to resources for cheap, modern art.

Order wrapped canvas large sizes. work out a pleasing to you scheme with cheap crayons., on paper, then get a set of inexpensive acrylic paints, couple cheap brushes. you can even use paper towels wadded up as brushes and make it. let dry and walla-voila wall art.

I know the sites where I can buy stuff. My challenge is that I don't have any design sense and don't know what to chose. There are thousands of wall art posters, paintings, all kind of stuff on Amazon. But I don't know what to choose, hence my question. Saying "you can buy your wall art here" doesn't help me at all.

ilikefriday - I am aware of eBay and buy/sell stuff there. The question is not where to buy - Google Shopping points to hundreds of stuff - but what to buy that fits the design. Because I don't understand what works/fits my rooms. Not everyone has a design sense. If I knew what works and what i need, I would not be asking this question.

I just want to go to web site and order a few wall art piece I can put up on the walls in my dining and living area so that when people visit, it looks modern and good. I don't like the look of bare walls. Hence my question. Rather than "buy this, buy that and make it look good", I am looking for the specific recommendation from people that have a beter eye / sense for design than I do. I have none. I think art that you posted above looks very generic but what I like may or may not fit with your design. I gravitate towards large, modern, abstract paintings of people. Here are some examples of the type of art I would decorate my home with. Art is personal. What one person likes, another might hate.

i like the art you posted from amazon, since this is a rental you are smart not to spend too much on art. but since your walls are grey i would prefer more color so i am linking to the same idea but with more color.

i would also email the seller and clarify that you get three paintings and what the combined size is. dont get me wrong if you dont want more color your choice is perfect.

Jason, congratulations on the new digs! It looks like you have abundant light and a kitty or two, both essentials in my book.

I think you can find artwork within your budget, but it would be helpful to know what you like, what calls to you. "Modern" can be a lot of things. As you browse the internet for inspiration, surely something stands out to you--"I really like that!" "That's me!!" There are folks in this forum who are fantastic at finding things, as long as they have something a little more specific to go on.

Lyban zone 4 - the walls are not grey, the actual color is Pure White by Sherwin Williams. Perhaps it looks a bit greyish on the photos. But it's actually slightly off white.

Jason, where do you live? Many stores have large sized art in the store. Suggestions--Target, World Market, TJMaxx/Homegoods, Hobby Lobby, At Home. I'm sure there are many others that I haven't mentioned.

Go to some of therse places and look at the art. What appeals to you? It's easy to bring some home and try it out in your apartment. Return it of it doesn't work.

You can always order when you figure out what size and style of art speaks to you.

RNmomof2 zone 5 - I don't have any design sense, that's why i am asking. I have all these stores nearby. In fact, no need to go anywhere. Plenty of wall art on Amazon, but i don't know what to buy. I don't want to buy what appeals to me, because I don't understand anything about this. I want to buy what looks good to most design-aware people.

In that case I would get your new gray sofa in place, arrange the furniture how it’s going to be, put up the TV or a placeholder ( like tape paper to wall, and then photo your furnished or mostly- furnished rooms and some measurements. Then you’ll get some more suggestions/ links to art that are all different ‘cause based on different tastes, & you pick some ( toss a coin). Or you pick 2 and post a vote ( may turn out a tie vote. You start with one piece of art ( or a duo or trio if that’s what was picked due to wall area) —often over sofa if it’s close to wall, or over a buffet table on dining wall, or on a random wall — and hang that ( or prop it up), then you post a photo of that along with the next area and say, here’s what I have up so far , what next pics of art should go ..( on the adjacent wall. in the DR, whatever.

It's so personal, people cannot really choose for you. It does not require design sense, honest.

Is there a hotel or a restauarnt you have been to that had art you liked? someone's home? Use that as a starting point.

I would suggest you go to a site like Art.com. Do you like photographs? maps? They have lots of categories.

As for what looks good ... you can hardly go wrong as you have a blank slate. Just try to make sure it is large enough. Puny art looks ... kinda dumb IMHO.

I agree with marmiegard. Don’t rush. Wait until you get your major furniture pieces in place unless you want to choose your art then pull the colors from that to decorate you space.

Is there any art that especially speaks to you, even if you can’t afford it, even if it is in a museum or a gallery. I’m asking so that maybe you could use that as a starting point. Or even use reproductions of pieces that you like.

Go big. I once heard Christopher Lowell describe small decorative pieces as ”room dandruff.” There is a time and a place to use small pieces, but in general, I agree with his sentiments.

I like Audubon prints and you can get them in a wide variety of sizes and at most of the places that sell reproduction art. I’m not especially recommending the one below; I’m using it as an example.

If you like colorful and if you like sports, look at Leroy Nieman pieces. Again, easily accessible in a variety of sizes.

Here are two pages from Vern Yip’s decorating book that I saved to refer to. They are good guidelines to have on hand, IMHO. Pay special attention to the picture hanging height.

What a stunning apartment-lots of light and plenty of wall space to showcase some art. I think abstract is the way to go. Some of those suggested Some of the ones already suggested do not strike me as modern or something for a single guy. Is there a reason you don't want the ones you linked? Here is another possible option from Amazon. It has some blue, but I think that would complement your space, although maybe too small. I would also suggest finding something very large-I prefer that when it comes to abstract pieces. Gives the art impact. Your dining room cries out for one huge piece. One more thing-in the photos, the art is hung too high, I think. The one I linked may also be too small for your large wall spaces...at least for me. I would be thinking along the lines of Rothko, Jasper Johns, Josef Albers, Rauschenberg, etc. Some have color which you may decide you want after living there a while, but Johns did many in blacks and whites (not suggesting originals-lol). Have fun searching.

Unsolicited advice but meant in the kindest way: center the rug in your dining room and then center the table on the rug. Then replace the ceiling light in the DR. You may have to find a new home in the apartment for the console. Instead of art, have you thought of wallpaper within the panels on your DR walls?

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, since I skipped down to comment, but have you tried going to local art shows/galleries yet? Outdoor festivals are one place to find local artists and original works that might not bust the budget. Flea markets too, often have paintings, prints and posters for sale.

And there are always posters - antique stores and malls can be a source for that.

I say, find something you really like or even love, since you'll be seeing it every day.

That was one reason I suggested shopping in person. You may see one that speaks to you and you just have to have. If you like it, it will go in your apartment. There aren't that many rules about what art goes with what furniture.

Looks like a nice place. I second the suggestion for Minted.com, I’ve found their quality good. Also, Artfully Walls. For something less expensive there’s Target, etc etc., online but their frames look pretty cheap IMO. i would get the furniture in first & go from there.

IMHO, art does not require design sense, other than sizing. It requires that you like it. That it makes you feel good when you see it. That you like the colors, mood, or scene.

ker9 - this is for me, but personally I don't have any art sense, so it's really so thaf it looks nice for the guests and friends visiting. Like you know there are car guys who care about every little element of the car they buy. And there are regular people that just buy a car that is reliable and looks fine. I am that way with the art.

Have you gone anywhere to look at art? This might be a project that requires you to get up off the couch and actually go shopping irl.

Did the OP mention a price range? There is a not a lot available on the lower end that would be the sizes it seems he wants except stuff that is essentially posters.

OP: if you like New Yorker covers I would google them and select from hundreds of possibilities whose that appeal to you. get large sizes pro ted on wrapped canvasses and hang them side by side in twos and threes.
