Question re: container garden in NYC (Zone 6b)

I posted this question a few days ago and received one partial response, so am posting again to hopefully get more replies.

Net, net I have a container garden on a 3rd floor balcony, and also on a (full sun) 4th floor rooftop. They are all perennials, here in NYC (Zone 6b). Starting on Sep 16, I will be away for a few months.

I've never stopped watering my plants that early into the Fall, and especially now...with warmer temps often lasting thru September, and maybe even into a bit of October....do I have to wonder about any of my plants actually 'dying', due to their not being watered after Sep 16? Or will they simply dry up a bit...maybe look less attractive than usual...and just go 'dormant' a bit earlier than usual... but not necessarily die?

I'm just wondering how worried I should be....whether it's worth my paying someone to continue watering them...or to transport them to a friend who has outdoor space, and who could water them thru the end of October or so. I'd rather not have to do any of this, though, if we think the plants should be OK.

Thanks!
