door to blend in with wall
Comments (1)A carpenter can install the jamb below the plane of the drywall, and j-bead can be used to define/protect the drywall's edges, and a flush door can be hung, but the hinges will still stick out somewhat, unless you used a piano hinge arrangement, or better still, euro-type cabinet hinges. But you have to use enough of then to not exceed their weight-bearing capacity. On a 3' wide solid core door, that would mean seven hinges. Magnetic "touch latches" can be used to keep it closed and eliminate the need for a knob. But it's a complicated little project with several uncommon bits of hardware used together in a unique way; IOW not every carpenter is going to be up to the challenge. Casey...See MoreFor Brutuses
Comments (1)Jan, thanks for all the information. I'm sorry I don't have any ideas for you, but the black and gold with red accents sound like a winner. I just yesterday found a tapestry fabric that has all kinds of colors in it and now I have the inspiration I need to decorate the house. I'm not a born designer nor have I studied design. I have really good taste (or though they tell me), but I struggle to put stuff together. That's why I was having such a rough time trying to figure out about the color scheme for my new house. I want the house to be relaxing and all the different colors to flow and not clash. I think I've abandoned the red kitchen idea for the moment because my tapestry has led me into another direction. LOL See what I mean? I'm back and forth on my decisions, making myself crazy till it's absolutely perfect in my eye. Your kitchen is so beautiful. I might still sneek in one red wall in. It's still up for thought!! I also have an alcove I guess you could call it where my dining table will be (it's part of the great room), but it's close to the kitchen. I'm thinking maybe a red wall in that alcove and one in the kitchen to bring the 2 together. Then again I have to keep in mind my tapestry fabric which really doesn't have any red to speak of. However, it has a lot of other colors that go with red. We'll see. It's for my new house being built and I still have lots of time to give myself 2 or 3 more ulcers!! Thanks so much for taking time to write....See MoreTrying to blend cabinet color in kitchen and living area
Comments (34)It looks wonderful! I love the center painted black! Great job! I will share that I have been working on a similar issue. My kitchen and family room are one big room with no walls in between. The kitchen cabs are straight across from a full wall of built-ins/wainscoting/fireplace. They are currently the same natural wood tone but I am going to paint the built-in wall white...much to the dismay of the haters, ha! Any who, what I did was put up bamboo blinds in the family room, in the same wood tone of my kitchen cabs. Also added in black to both 'rooms' as a color to unify the two spaces. Black light fixture, black bar stools, black coffee table, black frames, black curtain rods, etc etc. I have the same curtains in the kitchen and in the family room. I also have wainscoting below the chair rail that I painted white including in in the kitchen areas and I hope this will be enough to pull it all together once I paint the built-ins....See MoreHow to fix this misfit, angled fireplace? Comments (121)Thank you all; you said: “remove the mantle” (HIwEase); “take the surround and end it from wall to wall run it up to the ceiling with different tiling” (Claire Larece); “painted the same as the wall color(…) 3 inch or so wide black metal frame around the firebox” (lefty47); “something that goes wall corner to corner” (beesneeds); “Remove the current fireplace surround, fur out the wall, and tile with large format tiles” (groveraxle). We did it, TY !! ... Now will you please help me out switching art between living room and family room? <new thread? this one is 100+ long>...See MoreRelated Professionals
